    Battery continuous amps

Got a question - if i have a 5000 mah battery with a 40c discharge, does that mean 200 amps will be pushed thru the esc to the motor, or is 200 amps available for me to use. if the motor wants 157 amps to run at full capacity
then only 157 amps will be pulled from the battery thru the esc to the motor. is that correct

    NO and Yes

A 40C 5000 mah is capible of delivering 200 amps of current. Boat, motor, prop and set up determine how much current will be drawn. You dont want to push a battery pack or ESC to it's limits. Play it safe and us the 2/3 rule. Run your equipment to 2/3 it's rated capacity to ensure a long happy life (hopefully).

that being said, some people concern that there ESC is too big because it will push current through, not at all the case.
same for batteries, I have seen an argument on a youtube video that higher rated packs will blow the ESC from too many amps, it is quite the opposite, if your packs can't supply the amperage to your ESC, it will likely fail.
your motor should be your lowest rated component, then the ESC, then the packs.

Higher rated packs actually CAN destroy the ESC or the motor. They have a lower inner resistance and therefore a higher voltage. A higher voltage will cause a higher current when th same prop is used (P=I*U and P=U²/R).

Example is my HPR06: With Kokam 5000 30C the setup is warm but still fine after the run, speed is around 140km/h. With a new 5000mAh 45C the speed is between 150-155km/h and its over the edge. If I'd try to empty these batterys in one run I'm sure the motor will overheat.

        Best regards,
        Manuel
