    Battery, ESC, motor question

I am new to electrics and looking to set up a Dumas Hot Shot using a Proboat Stiletto outboard. I have been doing some research on this site and I am getting a pretty good handle on setups. I am a nitro guy so I am pretty good with setting boats up I am just trying to get a handle on motor, ESC and battery packages. So if I have a motor that is rated at 65 amps, can I use a 30C 4000mah pack with a 120 amp ESC? My assumption is you would set the EPA on the radio to 55% or am I just over complicating this? Also does anyone know the largest case that will fit in the Stiletto outboard with out modification? Would a 3674 or a 3665 fit? I would like to put together a simple inexpensive package to mess with before I invest in some better equipment.
    Thanks,
    Zach

    Welcome!
your pack is rated to 120A, assuming that the 30C is constant. I say rated because (depending on the quality of the pack) it probably isn't safe to run it at 120A constant, but it will hold up fine to 65A.
the ESC is also big enough.
this is assuming that the motor will draw 65A, it will likely draw up to 80-85A constant depending on how you prop it.
    What is EPA?

EPA is End Point Adjustment. So right now I am looking at getting the Leopard 3674 1400KV and running it on a 120A Seaking with a 4000mah 5s 25-50C battery. Does this sound like a good starting point? Is the current draw on the motor based on the load that is put on the motor? Thanks for any help and sorry if these questions have been covered a million times but I would like to get a good handle on this.

        Thanks,
        Zach

yeah, current draw is dependent on load on the motor.
through a bunch of formulas, each motor needs a specific wattage to spin a prop (vaguely), since you have a set voltage, it will draw amps to get the wattage, so the less load you put on the motor, the less amps will be drawn, since amps=heat, less load=less heat.

If you want to run a longer motor than the stock 3650, just dont use the outboard cover..........you can run a 3674 if you like.
NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? QUALITY 5.5MM, 8MM, 8 AND 10 AWG, GET THEM HERE: http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...est!&highlight=

Ok thanks. Now my last question is I was looking at running 2 x 3000mah 4s 25c packs so that I could run on 4s most of the time but if I wanted to do a thunder run I could run on 8s. As I look at the Seaking speed controlers the 120A is only rated for 2s-6s and the 80A HV is rated for 5s-12s. Is there any one that makes a ESC that will run 4s and 8s?

              Thanks,
              Zach

Thanks, I want to run the cover so I will stick with the 3650.

a motor that runs well on 4S will likely burn on 8S.
6S runs it might hold up but with those packs you won't get the amperage, try :

and for speed passes (only do one or two passes)

Boater dude - i am assuming that you have purchased and used these Haiyin batteries.??? First how is the shipping/ purchase experience and most importantly how are the batteries compared to Turnigy and Other comparable brands?

I don't have experience using them, but i have never heard a bad review.
I ordered on sunday and by tuesday my pack had reached Windsor ON, headed to Ottawa, so it will definitely arrive this week.
no idea what they compare to.
