You just keeled your lipo....
You are right by beeing pist off at HobbyKing, they are morons but this battery was shot by the lightbulb.
Get new charger if the one you have is not capable of discharging lipos and you are back in business....

i didn't let it go till the lights went out, I was timing it in 20 minute increments and I noticed (i was in the other room) that the lights were no longer on, so I ran in as fast as possible, suspecting a short.

They didn't over dischrage his battery.... be mad at them for a controller not being replaced for 2 years, that makes sense...but for this...sorry, he did it to himself in this case.....not Hobby Kings fault.

can someone just help me understand why the voltage dropped so fast?
my theory is that the middle cell (the dead one) is bad, and was using power from the other two to try to charge itself, is this even close to right?

Even if your theory was remotely in the realm of possibility.....................it can never happen, they are in series, not parallel.

It can be thrown away after being fully discharged. Let it sit in the water for almost a week to be safe.

After about 2 days..................wrap up in a bag and throw in your trash outside. Cut the bullets off to re-use for something later...........but ONLY cut one wire at a time.

yeah i know that much about FE's, not much else but... (you don't have to agree with that)
bullets will be going on my build, went with 5.5's cause i'm too lazy to solder (and write because instead of cause)

Boaterguy, I use my lipo charger to discharge my batteries. It is the function called ,,storage lipo,, and it does very good job.
Also the ballance of discharged lipo looks very good too after discharging.
All lipo chargers today do have this function, even if you get one for $16.00 from overseas...

don't knowck the accucel, sure it sucks, but it works
i was doing discharge, instead of storage.
it's too bad chargers don't have like a 3- cycle mode so you can leave it going all day (on the weekend) while at work on the boat.
