5S or 6S on a 1700kv?

Need some advice. What would be the best setup here 5S or 6S. I will be running a Tacon 1700 in an Apparition hull with a HK T180 ESC. Tacon specs http://www.hobbypartz.com/96m812-3674-1700kv.html

According to this chart http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...5&d=1302274810 running 6S is borderline but then again a chart is rather general and therefor this motor and esc combo may be just fine. I would prefer the 6S but will consider 5S if reliability is going to be a factor. Need some experienced advice on this please.

i think 5s with that motor i run a castle 1518 with 1800kv and it works great , but these are different motors. it lookin like its hard to beat the leaopard motors which are not much more than your going to pay for the tacon because your going to need a cooling jacket as well another $20
the 4074 has a 1400kv better suited for 6s you will be drawing less current keeping your stuff cooler, speed would be in the mid 50"s i'm sure depending on your batteries, what batteries do you have now

oops if you have the tacon already i would use 5s i thought you had not got the motor yet and giving you another option for 6s

I have been running this setup on 6s (2x 6000mah 3S. Got 8 of these) all last summer on a Spartan with stock prop which was underpropped and therefor drawing less current and had no issues at all, everything was warm at best after a run. In the apparition I will be wanting to test the limits but obviously this hull is heavier and will require a little more prop which meens more power demand which means more amps/heat. I will definitely have dual water intakes with one dedicated to the motor and the other the ESC.

What about rpm? I see if I go 6S on this I will be hitting up to 37,000 rpm compared to 31,000 on 5S, is this an issue?

Guess the difference between 5S and 6S at runs with similar speed is just a question of propping?

FYI, 36mm x 45mm aluminium, o-ringed cooling jacket can be had for $4.65.

Not really. You won't actually hit 37,700 rpm on 6S, closer to 34,000 on the water. At this level just a little too much prop can increase the amp draw substantially, leading to a melt down. If you have to do it (5S will be a lot safer) be careful.

What about option C? I have 8 6000mah 3s batterries. What about running this on 3S? Performance decrease??

After much thought and advice I think using my 3S batteries to create a 6s setup is the most efficient and economical route. I will purchase 1 of these as opposed to using my 1700KV. http://www.hobbypartz.com/96m811-3674--1300kv.html Should perform well and on spec in the chart. How long run time do you think I will get running 2X 3S 6000mah packs?
