needs some packs but who has best quality control?

    Hi all,

I need to replace my 3 cell 5000mah 30c turnigy packs, and want to run minimum 5000mah, 40c 2 cell packs, I want to hook them up to achieve 21v, thinking if a cell goes down, it will be cheaper replacing a 2 cell pack instead of a 3 cell pack, if you know what I mean.

Can some of you guys with fast electric let me know what packs are doing well? I read about gens ace recently, the appear to be good. I was about to go turnigy again from HK but worry about the poor quality control and crappy after sales service in event of problems. Is the service out of the German warehouse any better?

    any suggestions appreciated

    thanks

IMO next season will show what the Gens Ace are all about, many people including myself ran them last season, I'd never heard of them before that.
I don't remember hearing about any issues with them at all.
Mine ran a lot last year and will have been stored for a long Canadian winter, be interesting to see how they perform next season. Bought a set of Polyquests at the same time, double the price of the GA but very good batteries. I have no hard data but I figure for me it will be a good enough comparison to see what lasts the longest and then by how much.
Next time I buy new batteries I'm going to begin using this phone app I got for logging battery info for rc planes. It can give you a $ per run breakdown of each pack you're keeping track of.
All in all, first season with the GA was a complete success, only question remaining is lifespan. I like them more than my HK packs, I have no Nano-Tech batteries, just the normal ones.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Hyperions, bar none! But you will pay more for them. No brainer for me as my Hyperion packs far outlast the Chinese Hobbyking stuff I have bought.

+1 for Gens Ace. They are getting more and more popular and they live up to the hype. I highly suggest them after runing six of their 3s 5000 mah 40c packs and two of the their 2s 5000 mah 40c packs. I'll be buying more in the near future.

As your in the uk try performance models.co.uk they do turnigy packs cheap and 40-50c got mine from them the very next day and trust them not to send me a duff pack which counts for a lot! Giant Cod do gens ace in the UK but didn't have any stock when I checked last

robotbirds.com sell Hyperion and Long Max Tipple in the UK. You won't get a problem with the LIPOS from them but you will pay a bit for the quality.

Good find, any idea if their poly power Lipos are any good, seem competitive for 35c and suggest this is true discharge rates.

I likwe the look of the gens ace, but want soft case, with something like 5000mah and 40c min, but they all seems to be hardcase, is there anyone else other than the two vendors mentioned?

I haven't bought the Poly Power Lipos off them yet but I am pretty sure the batteries are the same as Turnigys just re-shrink wrapped. They look similar. I would think robotbirds checks the pack for dodgy soldering or balance leads and replaces or re-solders where needed then they shrink wrap and put their own brand on it.

I doubt seriously that anybody buying relabeled packs is examining or resoldering anything.

If they do the re-labeling themselves with their own brand, they would not want to have quality control issues on the packs. Turnigy packs normally only need small and easy repairs and for customer satisfaction surely its worth it. I know this is true of UK sellers of Turnigy batteries on ebay. Great idea if you ask me.

The added expense to re-solder, etc packs would make them too expensive. We have imported packs and had them relabled for us at the factory. We did nothing beyond that and I doubt anyone else would either. It would ultimately be less expensive for us to buy better quality packs and pay a bit more than starting to 'dig into' packs, do the labeling, etc.

We now simply buy GOOD batteries with name brands on them and sell them at a normal level of profit. Tinkering with a product from a manufacturer would violate any warranty on the product anyway.

The GrimRacer packs are working well. I've got a season plus two SAWs and a 2-lap on them and they still perform as new (data logs, not guesses). Hyperions would be my other choice if I needed something other than 2/4S packs.

I have 12 Hyperion 5000 or 5500 packs and have never had any issues with them. 4 of the packs are 2 years old and still run great-- very little voltage drop off on my runs.

FWIW I have had nothing but grief from turnigy packs.
