    Are Hyperion Lipos the best?

I have never ran a Hyperion pack before but have recently been thinking about going into the racing side of boating so would like to know. So I'm just looking for performance. Not price. Will they beat all my other batteries or are they way overpriced?
I like opinions but facts are better.
    Thanks

I have been using the G3 35C and 45C packs for several years, they are very good cells. Many of our club members are using them with similar results. From my experience they are 'way better under high amp draws than the cheap Chinese cells (no surprise) and better than FlightPower. They seem to be very close to ThunderPowers of the same specs. The advantage of the TPs is when you have worn out your packs you get a 40% credit on new packs. I use both with much satisfaction. Most of the G3s I have purchased from ALL e RC.

Thanks Jay. I'm going to get a Hyperion G3 45c 4200mah to run in my DF Cyberstorm.
I have a load of lower cost batteries I will be comparing it against.
That 40% credit on TPs is pretty good! 40% is loads off the usual price.

REALLY?!?!? does it matter where you purchase them? Im currently looking for four 4S 5000+mah, and have been comparing the two, Hyperion and thunder power, Didn't see anything about the credit....

If you really do some investigating you might be surprised just who produces these batt. packs . I've been running a thunder power and an gen ace 5000 40 c packs in the same hull , if there's a difference I sure can't see it . The gens ace lipos have been really getting some good revues , and will save you a ton of $$$ . Just my two cents .

I too have seen some good reviews on Gens Ace as well but no personal experience, their available at very good prices at giantcod.co.uk as well & go up to 55c.

Just who "makes" the cells is far less important than who puts the packs together. We saw the same thing with NiCd and NiMH cells - pack assemblers offering cells from the same manufacturer - but with far different pricing. What you weren't told was that the cheaper packs were made from the low performance and reject cells from the cell factory, and the higher priced packs were made from the hand-picked "best" cells. Same thing is happening today. You actually can get what you pay for.

Cheap packs often advertize inflated 'C' and capacity ratings, knowing that the consumer won't or can't check to see if they are accurate. Comparing two packs from different assemblers in the same boat proves little if the tester doesn't stress the packs or run them for a full season. Cheap packs may work fine at 60 amps, but often fade above 120 amps. They may give up after 25 cycles. I've seen too many fail or burn up even when stressed within their "posted" specs.

I'm not saying don't buy cheap packs - some are clearly good enough for many uses. The Gens Aces may be great, I don't know. If I was a sport runner I'd probably buy the cheaper packs, but as a racer I understand that all the energy in an FE boat is held in the packs. No matter what motor or ESC you use, your performance is ultimately limited by the quality of your packs. Value and low price are not the same thing.

According to Gens Ace specs the burst is x 2 the cont c number. Example i use 2200mah 3s 55c cont, burst 110c. Cont current 121a & burst 242a.

Thanks for the info. I asked because I have just noticed that the cells and the way the battery is wired is very similar to WINMAX Lipos. The have a 4s battery 5200mah 50-100c. The mah is off by my timing so maybe 5000mah would make more sense. I have been testing Winmax for a short while and I am finding them very good for quality and performance. They beat Turnigy easily but also cost a bit more.

In the UK you should look at the Overlander Extreeme pro 60c constant 90 burst, i beleive they supply batteries to the UK aero team where they have set new records using these batteries.I was using the Turnigy Nanos 2200mah 3s 45c-90c & their was a noticable diff in speeds over the 25c i was using before. The Overlander 60c-90c is that much faster again over the Nanos.

Yes they look very good. I haven't seen many of these packs ran though. The 60c constant is quite a attractive number. Looks about the same price as hyperion.

IMHO, hyperions are absolutely the BEST lipos on the planet. They are far superior than the cheap chinese batteries. They hold their power curve much longer and can handle strong ripple current much better. I run them exclusively for racing. I swear you can get two to three times the lifespan out of them than the cheap batteries. Not to mention I have never had one arrive DOA or defective as I have with several cheap battery orders from HK. I use the cheap batteries in my airplanes because aircraft setups don't punish the batteries like FE boating does!

There are some new batteries on the market. I tried one in an airplane yesterday (4S 40C 5000) and was amazed at the power and length of run. Time will tell but they MAY be as good as Hyperions. A few folks out there are trying them out now. The batteries are HAIYIN brand and can be found at www.haiyinstore.com . The price of the 4S 5000 40C is $56!! And their warehouse in the Las Vegas area and they are shipped from here in the states. None of the long waits!

I saw a Hyperion 4s Ex 4200mah on ebay brand new still in box half normal price so I bought it. Previous owner had left it at storage values for 2 months. When I got it the first thing I did was check the cells. 3.83 3.82 3.81 3.83. I thought they would of been balanced. I then balance charged it at 4.2Amps 1C. Battery ended at 4.20 4.18 4.19 4.20. Resistance?
A week before as mentioned I bought a Winmax 4s 5200 battery 3 months left at storage also brand new. Cells arrived balanced 3.80 all round
I then balance charged at 5.2amps 1C and I got perfect balance 4.20 all round.
I know its only slightly out but what's up with the Hyperion?

Since you know nothing about them other than what the seller said, it is difficult to comment. Half price eh? Your charger didn't do it's job very well, the total voltage should have been 16.8 volts. Run them a few times and see what happens.
