Is it possible for a brand new set of 2s2p hard case turnigy 6000 65c lipos to release a little smoke upon the first use but not get hot or show external dammage? I am new to lipo and am trying to figure out where the smoke came from. I was running these packs for the first time yesterday and the boat ran perfect . Excellent power and run time. when it hit low voltage cut off , I brought it in and when I removed the tape and hatch there was smoke in the hull (not alot, but enough to grab my attention). IR temp guage showed batteries at 110-115*F and ESC as well as the motor were around 80-85*F. Wiring was also cold. As I had the factory ESC blow out on the second time the boat was ever run ( but not the day in question) I am now very gun shy I guess I would say on FE and lipo's. When hard case lipos "puff" does it split the case? I ran another set of batteries a few minutes later and everything was fine. Same temps , boat ran great and there was no smoke. Can't for the life of me figure out where the magic smoke came from. When I got home I put a storage charge on the new batteries and they seem ok. I ran the boat like normal on the packs first charge was this bad? I have read its not good for the ESC to run the boats slow but that you should go easy on packs for their first few cycles. I didnt torture them by any means but I did not baby them either. Anything I can or should check before putting them back in my boat again?

It is difficult to diagnose this from afar. What boat and equipment were you running? If the ESC "blew out" on the next run that may have been the problem - lots of part throttle running is hard on the ESC but the temp on yours was not bad. I have no experience with hard case packs, the temperatre reading on the plastic case will be lower than on the actual cells in a softpack. But, the temp was still pretty low.
The worst thing you can do to a brand new pack is to run the pack voltage too low. If your LVC was working you are probably okay. I would use the pack again, but for the next couple runs time your run for three minutes tops and don't run all the way to LVC.

Then I can't come up with a reason for any smoke. Rarely I've seen "smoke" come out of a hull which was just oil that got hot in the driveline, but your temps are low. How long after you shut the boat off did you measure the temps?

Did you catch a whiff of the smoke ?
Sweet or metallic or oil ?
Some do , some dont.. but I recommend a 1C full charge then a medium run to LVC for a pack's first run. Has shown this adds cycle time and yield to packs.Wayne Schutte PhdCSE BaSE BaEE. Australian, & damn proud of itYOUTUBE

I did not. Since the stock esc burned in the boat it has the "smell" every time the hatch is off. I ran it this past weekend with the new Seaking 180 , new Leopard 3674 and new higher quality packs and the boat ran flawlessly.....Thanks for the advice on the cell break in.
