Hobbypartz Research and Development? Let's just say sub par.

So I get my brand new Gen Ace Roar Lipos today 5000Mah 40c and they come with Deans connectors. When I ordered them in the pic of the batt I see the 4mm Banana adapter that can be removed from the batt. which is what I plan on using. The reason being I can get hold of 4mm bananas very easy. But when I get the packs low and behold they are bananas on one end and Deans on the other. Hmmm I call Hobbypartz and ask them why and for a replacement and she says that the reason I got Deans was my specific Batt size requires it and I will fry the bananas? OK then why do the ROAR Lipos have Banana inputs!!!! In basic electronic resistance knowledge you are only as strong as your weakest point and if your using bananas right off the batt./bat that would be the most dangerous scenario as you would create the most heat at the battery. I really can't see how Deans are better anyways Are they?

Anyways she did say she would ship me the banana adapter but said it would be normal shipping. So I have to wait another week. I just couldn't believe she is telling people that they shipped something that will be dangerous and fry lol!!!!

I know that there are a lot of kids in this industry but cmon!!!!

HobbyPartz has great prices but there customer service lacks in too many ways.

Like mentioned on your other thread. Just change the connectors. Gens ace batteries are some of the best on the market and data research proves it. Your calling them sub-par for using a better US standard connector? This is a step in the right direction for them. I just think your being way overly critical over a simple battery connector. Once again jmho.

Im not attacking Gen Ace just the CS reps answer for why they use Deans. I dont think you are understanding the type of batt I got. It uses a removable adapter and uses both Deans and Banana plugs but it uses the bananas on the batt side and deans on the other side. So why have two different resistance variables?

The only reason I see is the bananas are more expensive hence the "cheap" switch. Somebody who has had a 4mm banana fail before a deans can prove me wrong.

Got ya... I now understand about the removeable plug.

I have purchased two 7.4V, 40C, 5000mAh, Gens Ace batteries. Replaced the Deans connectors with Traxxas connectors.
On the 3rd run in my MG, the boat stopped. I fetch MG and found the negative corner of the battery, deformed as it melted around the banana receptacle.
Gens Ace promptly replaced the battery.
A month later, the same thing happened to the other battery. Now, more than 30-days since purchase, HobbyPartz will not replace this defective battery. I now have one Gens Ace battery.
My favorite batteries are the soft and hard case Sky Lipo batteries from HobbyPartz. Terrific power and run time.

Deans are woefully inadequate for those packs. 4mm bullets are also inadequate. I change all of my packs to 5.5mm bullets so I don't care what comes on them, I cut em off anyway.

Sailr, I have been thinking of doing that. Did you do it to the charger too?

Can you provide a link to these batteries? All the gens ace I look at and have bought all came with bananas, I don't understand how they can have bananas on one end and a deans on the other.
But then again I also put good connectors on everything, ditch the deans and 4mm plugs and do it right.
Saw a small plug melt on a motor last weekend. Had to paddle out to get it back and Ken was done for the day.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

I recently got som Gen Ace 2S 5000's for the SAWS. Hard pack ( I don't really want hard packs, but that's the only way I could get the specs I needed) You must order the "Direct" version, which has the wires hard-wired to the batteries; not the plug-in bananas which are not unexpectedly inadeaquate. They come with the red plastic connector-thingies on the output end which I promptly replaced with 5.5's.The batteries performed nicely, were well priced, and never got even a little warm, although SAW passes are very short. I intend to use them for some heat racing and that'll tell the tale about their durability over longer run times. Hobbypartz customer service is hard to contact by phone but persistance has paid off for me.
