Charging 8s and 10s pack questions

I have a balancing charger that can charge 2 packs at once up to and including 6s. Here is the link to it: http://www.okhobby.com/product.php?id_product=1709 It is rated at 400watts or 2x200watts. My question is can I charge a 8 or 10s battery with 1/2 being charged on either side? If so what is needed and how?

Are the 8S and 10S packs split packs?

In that case you can charge the two halves independently, but doing so without a charger that will sync the two might result in an unbalanced pack.

Refer to Hyperion description of split packs: http://media.hyperion.hk/dn/g3lipo/

If your packs are not split: don't even bother trying. Buy a better charger.

      No, not with that charger...
Gnd are common on charger outputs.. means cannot be used to simultaneously charge 2x5S=10S pack..
1x5S at a time is okay....

Are you referring to split packs? My understanding is that these packs are basically single packs paired together, at which point they are, from the charger's point of view, just two separate packs to charge.

The OP writes he has '8S and 10S battery'.
What led you to understand they are split ... ?

He questions if he can use both chargers across one pack.. .. No, the suggested charger is not possible... max 25.2output
Dittto, charging 2 split packs simultaneously is not possible... common ground.

          note:
This charger has a common ground at the output.. so charging a split pack with this unit is not possible.
          for 10S as split
These are the balance plug configs. .. where 5A joins gndB internal to the pack.. but balance plugs call this location 5S for packA, and gnd for packB
makes dead short 5A to gndA when wired to both charger outputs this charger

          gndA-1A-2A-3A-4A-5A gndB-1B-2B-3B-4B-5B
          ...[].................................[]
          ... these are joined internally
          common ground

pack A or B charged independent is okay, but connect to charger with common ground = deadshort =

Nothing, I've asked him but he hasn't answered yet.

This might be true for the balancer, but you're saying he wouldn't be able to charge them with the main leads only?

I don't have any split packs and no experience with them, when you say common ground are you referring to the charger only or the pack itself? It's not clear from the message above (at least for me).

Either way: I don't advise it, but I'd like to know more about split packs.

                split charging a pack.
Lets assume its a 10S pack.. made up of 2x5S internally wired to 2x5S balance plugs,.. with a single black(-)., and a single red(+) as power wires

with a single 10S balance plug .. it is like this
                gnd-1a-2a-3a-4a-5a-6a-7a-8a-9a-10a
as 10S with 2x5S, balance plugs
                gndA-1A-2A-3A-4A-5A gndB-1B-2B-3B-4B-5B
however, inside the 10S pack.. 5A and gndB are joined.. to make the 2x5S = 10S in series ...

So.. this charger has 'common ground' .. meaning all grounds are joined internally .. so gnd on both balance plugs, and charge output -ves.. are joined ..

So.. 5A and gndA are then joined.. so pack one complains in a fireball of misery.
