Using a single 1520 (1600kv) motor with two 5s 5000mah packs wired parallel (totalling 10,000mah) would be a fast option. This would give unloaded rpm of 30,000. The new hydra Ice esc's should handle it easily. Will two 5s 5000mah packs fit your Spartan hull? The added weight of the two 5s packs would add more weight making hull more stable at faster speeds. You can use the smaller props you already have with this setup.

We talked before about using two 4s packs wired parallel. Using 4s will run cooler, but motor rpm's will be lower. Larger props will be needed. Will the Spartan handle the larger props is the question.

      Here's a cool chart:

I have used 6s1p (two 3s packs wired in series) 5000 mah lipo with a 1500kv motor, run times were short, but boat was fast. I used the Mamba Monster air cooled esc with that setup. You could try 6s1p, but I do not know if the esc you mentioned would handle it?

Also...running your lipo packs down too low would will damage them and cause them to swell. The 20c 5000mah Venom packs are junk. The 40c 5000 Turnigy packs would be a better option IF they will fit? Hyperion 3S 5000MAH 45c packs are more expensive, but should fit and work nicely. (just do not run them down too low)

          Kurt,
If you have not done so allready, you can look in the Traxxas RTR section of this forum for more info about the Spartan. Lots of mods there.

            Same thing I keep recomending
and 5000mah 5s packs fit just fine in the spartan hull

Putting two 40C packs in series does NOT reduce them to 20C! It only doubles the voltage. Putting them in parallel only doubles the mAH. NO EFFECT ON THE C rating! Anyone that says otherwise is poorly informed. If you were putting two 3S packs in series (5000mAh) you STILL only had 5000mah's! which is capable of only capable of delivering 200 amps on 40C's or 100 amps on 20C's. If you were using 20C packs, it's no wonder you fried them. If you cooked the ESC, it was because of too high amp draw for that controller or over propping the boat.

Hey Sailr, I don't think anyone said running series cuts the C rating in half?

                But back to the OP
Its not the 20C packs desroying the stock stsyem on the spartan, that is a result of poor manufacturing

                    I see two questions..
one about using a good set of 40c packs, and will a 20c pack bow up the esc 3 times because his system fried 3 times with the 20c venom packs

I read it that he had 40C packs in series and assumed that meant they were then 20C each!
                      Haha. different interpretations I guess.

I do know there is some (or alot of) poor info over at traxxas that taks about this
and what you posted is correct
