Why is it crappy? It runs good on 3 s im only wondering about more cells to hold the nose down. I think the 6 xl runs good @ 3slipo

You could lower the strut a bit to help keep the nose down. Unless it's true scale & has a straight shaft, that is.
If you can't fit 2 x 3s packs in there, don't be afraid to add a bit of lead ballast up the front. Just make sure it's attached well. You don't it coming loose in a high speed tumble.
Just a couple of thoughts that can work.

Maybe apples and onions but I run a 540-6XL in a rigger that is good for 4-6 passes and that is on 4 cells to a 640, or 642

I assume you are after a race setup which is something I know very little about so I'll leave that to seasoned racers.
On 3S the 6xl is not a real stunner for me in a rigger but it works for you so far, so stay with it.

If you like the 3S then start with some ballast, I have had one hydro and that needed ballast to tame it down.
Once you establish your needed weight and location you may be able to go with bigger mAh packs and remove lead.

                  Over to you.

Higher cell count will raise the nose even more. 2p MIGHT work, but I'd play with the strut and weight placement. I'm the master of manipulating feather light boats.

Holding world titles you can be all the master you want My friend. I guess Ill lower the strut more.

Seriously Simon If I could get this nose to lay flat on the water this boat would move. Its real quick at 1/4 to half throttle but if I open it up it really airs out. It turns Good i just need to make it run a little wetter.

just a note for the balsa models. Close off your turbine exhaust and the air ducts with expandable foam or somme thing coz if it flips and water catches in theses areas it will rip the hatch apart.

Oh Bill I really wish I could try a sensored novak setup in this puppy. Do the make a sensored model that would be close to this 6xl? When you get some new stuff I want dibs on a sensored setup you have.

Ill get some video on it this weekend so you can see its attitude and help me make some adjustments.

Anyone that thinks these scratch built Finlay models wont move out check this :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=
Lastly building from scratch is so gratyfying.

Anyone who thinks a 1/12th scale hydro wont move is a nincompoop PERIOD. I had to compete against one a few years back at the SAWS in GA it was one of the toughest battles i ever fought. Almost went home empty handed, my micro hydro Vs a 12th scale pay n pak

We were running 19turn brushed motors on 8-cells nimh he took my record with his 48mph run, but after he packed up, I stayed and blasted through at 52..

Neat little boats, dosen't take much power to get em on flight. they were designed in the early to mid nineties when power was lacking. Lifty little sonofaguns..

I ran a 6XL on 4s once in my Mean Machine and it was nuts!
I only got about 1min because it snapped the shaft
