To add your batts should be charged at 1c (unless they are turnigy nano-techs), meaning you shouldn't be charging that 4000mah batt at higher then 4 amps. So with all that being said your charger will work just fine. It will just take a little bit longer to charge that's all. Most chargers that have a ac plug in will have a 50 watt rating so every charger with a 50 watt rating is going to do the same thing your charger is doing now. If you want to charge that 4000mah 4s pack at 5amp you will need a charger and power supply that can supply a min of about 80 watts...

*I KNOW PEOPLE CHARGE NON NANO-TECH TURNIGYS AT HIGHER AMP RATES, BUT I AM TRYING TO PROVIDE PROPER LIPO SAFETY INFORMATION.
thank you very very much! i now understand the whole deal here. ... i totally misunderstood the charger. i thought the 1a 2a 3a 4a 5a ment 1000mah and so forth. silly me! thanks friend!!
If the #2 pencil is the most popular, why is it still #2?

NO but, if it is cold outside it is best to keep your batteries at or slightly above room temp before running.

Running really cold packs can be harmful to them and may make fets run @ less than optimal range in esc's.

Just don't go and over heat them... 110F max. for newbies.

Not really, Lipo retain most of the charge for a long time.

That said there is one thing you should be concerned about: storing Lipo fully charged for long periods of time will decrease their lifetime.

Now consider this, you charged them last night and they spent all night and most of the day fully charged, then you use them for an hour or so and charge them again before going to sleep.

The result is that over a 24hrs period these batteries were fully charged for at least 22hrs or so, not good.

The alternative is to charge them to storage (~3.8v) after you use them and finish charging before using them again. That way they will sit at storage voltage for most of the time.
