Turnigy Nano-Tech or Hyperion G3 EX

I can't seem to decide whether to go for the Hyperion G3 EX 45-90C packs or the Turnigy Nano-tech 45-90C. I need these batteries for the following setup:

    45" Cat Hull
    2x 1521 1.5d
    2x Castle Hydra Ice 240A 33.6v

I will be running 5s and 6s packs.

I wanted to get the Hyperion's, but after some disappointing research, I've wandered back to the Turnigy Nano-techs. Can you guys offer some advice? I don't wanna spend twice the amount of money for packs that perform and do the same.

Hyperion are much bettor quality cells. I would use them for your setup. Some may disagree but I only use Hyperion for my race boats and high amp draw setups. I would not feel confident pulling the capacity out of a Turnigy that we do in offshore class and high amp draw setups. The "D" wind motors are amp hogs as well so your ESC will need all the help it can get. The ONLY ESC I have blown was with a D wind motor. I have only been doing this for about 4 years but I feel confident I am in the ballpark with my setups. Hope this helps.
On the flipside I have just started using Turnigy cells for my RC truck and small low amp boats. They seem to hold good runtime and resistance seems low and balance seems to stay well.

I've only had 2s Turnigy Nano-techs, and they've all been working great. That is why I had this question about the Hyperions. The main reason I started considering Hyperion was the amp draw from the motors. I figured the batteries played an important role when feeding the ESC, and should be of higher quality. Thanks for the suggestion and info!

Disappointing research? From where? I have not heard anything bad about the Hyperions. These are what I've been using and I am more than pleased with their performance.

I did some googling and there were some people saying that the Hyperion's are not worth the extra cash, and then I found these graphs which showed the Hyperion's and Turnigy's performed very similarly.

Well anyway, I decided to go with Hyperions and placed my order with Sailr last night :)

I think there is a thread on this fourm that compare different lipos. Hyperion and Turnigy nano techs are also compared and tested in it.

              Hi

Agree with Boatman - Hyperion are by far the best Lipo's on the market at the monent and the price reflects this.... - Turnigy are not even close to this -
I would suggest you spend the extra and get these you will not be disapointed!!!!!

              I have 8 - 6s 4400's 45C
              also 8 - 5s 5000's 45C and 4 3s 6500 45C's

              Just my 2 sents worth

Thanks Dean, that makes me feel better about spending the extra cash. They should be coming in soon from Sailr. I got 2x 5s 5000 45c and 2x 6s 5000 45c for my cat project. I'll probably be getting more when summer comes around

Nobody has mentioned that before, I'll look into it. What are the benefits of running 2p as opposed to 1p? I know it'll be 10,000mah instead of 5,000, but what are the advantages?

well I hear these motors like amps, so on 2p you will have 450amps of play with them and your runtimes will be longer
not sure how long a 1p setup will run with those motors, maybe only a few min.
it also makes things much easier on the packs with all those amps to share

Yeah they definitely do like amps. How do you calculate how many amps a lipo pack will be able to produce?

I'm not looking for long run times, at least not now. Maybe over the summer I'll get some more packs. For now I'm gonna stick with the 1p setup. I'll be happy when the boat moves on the water, haha.

Cant help you between the Hyperions v turnigy but i can with useing the Turnigy Nano Tech 45-90 over standarded type 25-35 Overlander lipos which are a pretty good quality lipo that a lot use the UK. The difference in excelaration & top speed was really noticable & well worth the extra cost. I have to be extra care full on the Nano when excelerating because of more torque roll. Thanks Martin.

                            I'd get the Turnigy's.
                            You won't convince me otherwise..

I agree, the Turnigy nano-techs are great batteries, and they're all I've been using along with the regular 40-50c packs. But for my high-amp setup I decided to pay the extra cost and get some better quality cells. They should be able to handle more amps with less stress. We'll see how they do when I run 'em!
