just picked up venom 2s2p 7.4v packs with 5400 mah. it says charge rate is 5.4 amps but my charger only goes to 5.0 amps. since these are my first lipo packs ever...im wondering if this is ok. do they need to be charged at 5.4 amps? or is a 5.0 amp charge ok. Regards, Dana
is it ok to charge 5400 mah lipo packs at 5.0 amps?

Yes. No problem. Will just take a little longer at 5A instead of 5.4Mini Cat Racing USA

Nope, not even in a lipo sack. I charge usually in the basement. As long as you are committed to watching them and making sure charger is doing what it should you will be fine. I usually check on them every 15 minutes as I am also working on the models during also I check wires for any heat as well. As long as your voltage is correct on your charge rate and your charging at 5. amps you will be fine.Comment

I charge my lipos in a lipo sack in the fireplace. I've read one too many threads about houses burning down...
I store them in an ammo box *with the rubber lid seal removed* so the ammo box can vent instead of blow up in case the lipos decide to flame out. I keep the ammo box in the fireplace as well...

If I can't watch them, I charge in a lipo sac in the middle of my garage. If I am there watching, then no lipo sac, but still in the garage.
They get stored with 60% charge in a lipo sac which is then placed in a fireproof safe in my basement.Comment

If your setup pulls 50A, then your ESC and packs can easliy supply it.
If your setup pulls 80A, then your ESC will likely get cooked, but packs should still be ok, assuming the ESC fire does not damage them.
If you upgrade your ESC to 180A one, and your setup pulls 120A, then your packs will get hot quick.
Hope that explains it.Comment

...you should also be able to set your charger to charge and balance too 5400mah. I have two 2 5500mah lipos which i charge together in a lipo bag at the same time.
They charge and balance at 14.8v to a maximum 5500mah. Usually charger shows 4.2v per cell when they are fully charged.Comment
