    1m FE C-1 offshore cat build- 100klm

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have aquired a new design of tunnel hull from a craftsman that has built them to resemble the earlier designed twin inboard offshore racing cats.

My test will be to set up twin powered brushless motors and LiPo cells in a 1m fibreglass cat to reach speeds at or above 100klm.
    I want to use:- 2x Neu 1y 2200kv 10turn motors
    4x 5000mah 3S =2x 6S per motor.
Alloy turbo strut outdrives with flex wire/teflon brash tube set up.
    2x quality? speed controllers.

Once set up, these hulls may be available through me if anybody is interested. These 2 prototype hulls are laid up in polyester, then if proven.. epoxy/carbon fibre/carKevlar will be available at later dates. Two different size cockpits will also be available one small as shown below, and a bigger version to allow more room for single motor set up.

Does anybody think the NEU's would be 'overkill' for this goal? or Feiago XL's would be sufficent enough to produce these results?

I am thinking of running the ETTI 150 opto race esc's, i have 1, so this would be the cheaper option.

Any body have any suggestions for what props i should be running?

Sorry for any confusion regarding photos of boat already set up.... this is the original from the manifacturer, mine were sent last Wednesday. Hoping to see them next week

Do not run twin 2215s - you will not be happy. One 1527 should power this fast enough (but not with that ETTI), two of those 2215 amp hogs would be a waste. And they are amp hogs, as club members running them on 6S have discovered. Better twin 540XLs (with that weak ESC ) running 6S each.

Your biggest challenge, as with most twins, will be fitting the motors to the available props. Octura only has a few L+R combos, although you could consider Graupner's fiber props. What do you REALLY want out of the boat - fun running, GPS racing, bragging rights at the pond? What speed and run time are you targetting? You need to know in order to choose motors and props.

Fluid, thanks for your time to give me good advice. Hull specs are 39" x 9.5"

REALLY this is what i want and pay to achieve it, bragg rights, fun running and a target of AT LEAST 100klm. (for the bragging rights:) ). twin power for this hull is a MUST, as i already have a 32"cat single powered.

I had no idea the NEU's were so power hungry. So these are just for all out power/speed yes?
I have no experience with neu's, only feiago's and they are good from what i can tell.I thought the neu vs' xl's were chalk and cheese?
            OK so i buy 2x 540XL 9's,
props Grupner K40's to start, then maybe 45's or better yet a set of octura X442's
I have not much boating experince as some, and still learning. I have used only cheap ebay HongKong mystery high amp speed controls, the 150amp and the 200amp. the 200amp ones seem to be ok didnt get hot compared to the 150 same application, yet i dont know if they produced as much power as the ETTi esc because i had to replace the batts at the same time as i changed esc's. (lipo's were damaged ).

As my first post says, 2x QUALITY? esc's. I have no idea. From what reseach i read, people blew and heated up castle esc's as much as all the others.
If im going to spend this sort of money i will be buying SHULZE from europe.

Thanks again Fluid, your help is very welcome.

Can any body tell me what lenght the stuts/props should be from the transome?
Why is the inside edge of transome continued or Not, through the rear? similar to the outside tappering up to the rear.
Looking for some struts around 100mm (without dog and prop). Hope i wont have to make my own.

here are some pics of the hull.

                    I will run 2x 540xl 8's
                    2x 6s 5000+ packs
2x YGE navy 120's (unless there is something as good for less $$$)

Speeds are expected to be over 100klm with this set up.
A pair of kraupner K 40's to start, then some K45's .... then when i want to really put the hammer down, a pair of Octura X442's.

What servo do people recommend to use for a 1m cat?
First step will be to lay up some CFK inside, and think about some carbon motor mounts and servo mount.
Power trim drives, im thinking of modding these turbo struts, they are 70mm, im planning on making new shafts for the pivot ball, and add 30mm lenght, so for my rule of thumb say 10% of the hull lenght, tip to sponson edge = 930 = 9.3mm strut from mounting surface to drive dog end, or prop start. So 100mm should be fine. I will add an extra support with a pad to mount to the floor/roof.

Im going all out with this one, much money spent, fast speed to be had, and scale looks to boot.

Any help with set up, suggestions or preference's please comment. Im only new to rc boating, so anything said is welcome.

all sounds good until you get to the power trim drives. Sounds like a lot of trouble and trouble looking for a place! Regarding a servo for steering, Look for a standard size metal gear high torque digital servo. The digitals have a lot more 'holding' power than analog but they also draw a lot more juice!

Any more news whether or not the hull will be produced?

Yes unless im confident with the modding the turbo struts i have, i will just go out and buy some HPR outdrives.
