a stupid question from a nooob...how do you ever change or work on the motors mounted in there?
fingers crossed i have left myself enough room as i have made a really large hatch . you will see what i mean in some more photos. its always a tricky one as you are right, there isnt much room to play in there.
i will get a photo 4 u . just off the top of my head its 255mm in lenght max hight 60 mm width210mm. it the same hullas "Peells" "yes another cat biuld" but i have blown his plans up insted of it being printed at a4 i did it at a3. its a mini cat at a bigger scale lol
Ok now I see you are at the stage of needing some clearance!! the bays you have selected for the motors neatly cut the plywood stringer out between the two bulkheads and for the hatch extend out to almost to the sides about 1/4" or so, so that you have a place to tape the hatch down, Ace (my son) used balsa for the top as he thought it formed nicer than the 1/32" ply. (rounded edges on the top very smooth) and the epoxy we coated it with made that balsa real hard, and very glossy it was runnable without any paint (that is a very cool feature of using the epoxy, and another one is you can just sit at the table and brush over it. (the boat) we used the 30 min. kind in two bottles for about 15.00 bucks and it is the best way instead of buying two of the syringe type or 3 or 4 of them two of the bottles (a&b) will be more than enough to do your boat (neatness counts) and as far as cleaning your brushes I swiped my wife's finger nail polish remover (works great) and I use an acid brush for applying the resin. do not spread it too thick and do one panel at a time and let it dry, And if you want to get fancy you can go on line and buy some epoxy pigment for about USD $8.00
also when mounting your motors where you are mounting them turn them slightly inboard at the aft end so when you run your stuffing tube you wont have a hard bend in it as you need to put it through the deepest point in the back of the sponson and you will be set up like Ace's
and I would put the esc's on their edges on the stringer then you will have all that area left for battery placement,
We ran ours for about 10 minutes or so and nothing was even hot to the touch just slightly warm that was it and I mean just slightly too!! (no water cooling installed) Well hav fun and keep up the good work.
