            Hi Guys,

I built an HPR cat with twin 580L/8 which easily pushed the boat over 50MPH on a super conservative setup. Don't get me wrong, I like NEU motors but for a sport boat their a waste of money. I also built a Drifter L with twin 10XLs direct drive turning x447s L&R which ran in the 50s on 4s. Then there was a BK Bandit M I built with twin 8XLs on gear drives that went close to 80 and set tunnel records in P and Q with only a battery swap.

Spend your money how you want but thinking a Neu is a magic bullet isn't quite right.

            Paul.

The speed controls were Hacker 77s. I built a bus bar to handle all the packs paralleled. It was a set of 5.5s soldered together and potted in epoxy.

                  Hi,

New in the forum from Baltics. I have previously run only with nitro-powered cats, but now I decided to make electric one. The hull is MHZ Mystic 44", drives and rudder from MHZ also.

Motors will be Lehner http://www.lehner-motoren.de/preise.php , but I have really difficulties for choosing right size and accessories. Can U help me with this. Some details:
                  - top speed needed in region of 100km/h or little less in the begining (thats about 60mph)
                  - should have good acceleration
                  - budget is about 1000 eur (1500USD), but doesnt matter if all money wont be spend. :)
                  - Drives will be direct drives looking from motor point of view. So motor axle straight to flexaxle and flex axle to drives.
                  - run time needed is 5-6minutes at least
                  - at first I could do with less power and get the mechanics to work proberly

I have no idea what so ever cuz I dont understand electrics... sad but true... but I am a quick learner. :)

So could you choose suitable Lehners (need 2pcs) for me. Is basic XXL in some variant ok (probably not)? Or do I need to go to for example 19XX series?
What would be the setup for lipos and esc´s? Lipos from Kokam? What voltage?

                  Thanx in advance!
                  UD

First of all you have to decide how many volts you want, for example 8s, 6s, 5s?
Then choose your motors and escs. Lehner motors are the best choise but you can go with neus if you want to save some money.
I would choose low kv motors (1400 -1800kv) and more volts 6s, 7s.
Remember your escs must support at least +2s more, for example if you have 6s lipo choose esc that can handle 4-8 lipos.

Take a look here (Hpr06 is almost the same hull with mystic)

                      Thanks xkos!

Great link. With 1940/x Lehners those will fly.... 120km/h. I think I will most likely to go with some setup mentioned behind that link.

Then again some (probably stupid) questions:
Lehner 1940/7 and 1930/9. Both have about the same kv (is this rpm per volt?).
                      - Watt rating 1200W vs 1400W,
                      - Amps 30 vs 50.

Is the a big difference between those?

Can both motors handle 6s lipos?

Does 1930/9 have more running time with same amount of battery?

Take a look at the Tenshock motors !
Priced between Feigao and the "expensive" ones.

Lehners 1930 series are no good for your hull. The rotors are too small.

If you want to go with lehner prefer 1950. You need a lot of torque in order to use big props such as οctura x447.

Now I am getting the picture. I understand now a bit of the mechanism behind this. Somebody said in some other thread that for class A hull use class A motors. So I probably will choose Lehners. Also because now I have something grip on those.

1950 with esc handling 4-8 could give me that advantage that when I want to go a bit faster I only need to upgrade lipos from 5 to 6 and select new props. (just an example)
... but man those things really fly with 1940/1950´s...

Thanx guys! I really appreciate you telling me these infos.

A pair of Plettenbergs 220/50's would be a very good choice to .
