what KV motor? Is that a 45mm carbon prop?? might want to move coupler further away from motor so you dont have quite as much cable un-tubed. Great looking boat and build though. Thank goodness for warranty.

what batteries were you using? how were you driiving? bashing or racing? - all good things to know for the rest of us with Ettis.

Batteries are Poly RC 6000mah 2 x 7.4 in series, I was just cruising up and down the river about 3/4 throttle and slowly bringing it upto full but I couldn't hold it at full throttle for any longer than a second or two because it was threating to become airbourne, and it did fly at one point

A smaller and low pitch prop (under40mm) may have helped prevent that fire. Better yet a cooler 8xl or even cooler 9xl would work safer I think.

Holy macaroni, I bet she was cruisin before meltdown. Yes chill the motor, and/or the prop. I bet you were cookin with >200 amps! I wonder how 3/4 throttle might have added fuel to the fire...

Yep it was absolutely booting before the magic blue smoke appeared. One thing though two caps exploded but one still held and I was able to drive the boat back to me as if nothing was wrong ( except the 2 loud bangs which came from the boat).
                  Can't believe I didn't any video

so is the ESC ok? can you just replace the cap board or is the whole shebang toast?

honestly, I am sick of hearing about the half to 3/4 throttle thing. YES, you are building and specking to full throttle but honestly if they werent meant to run at 3/4 throttle then why are we paying so much for these when we could just put a servo operated switch for on/off. I wish whoever started that crap would not have. I run my boats 3/4 throttle all the time and even those who say otherwise likely run theirs that way too. Its a fact you have to slow down and speed up.

why does this get you so agitated? what's the problem with discussing possible variables? Please share your data to dispel this "myth". I was told by a valid source that driving around at 1/2 - 3/4 throttle and then punching it is a good way to blow a FET... If you have good data, lets see it. No reason to get upset about it though, not a very positive interaction, in my opinion

The SV27 motor/esc combo will cruise all day long giving it lots on/off throttle.

I think Castle states on/off throttle is bad for their Hydra esc's

                            1/2 throttle

interesting..........the other day i let a friend "play" with my Associated RC18R which is brushed, but lipo powered and he was cruising around for maybe 5-7 mins. at 1/4 - 1/2 throttle when it just went dead. after trouble shooting, i found the motor fried. this was puzzling to me because i just went through a 2000mah batt at full throttle 15mins. earlier with no decrease in performance. i normally run at on/off full throttle. it was just weird to me that the motor died when running at half throttle. also noticed that the motor was SUPER hot when it died.

Not from me to you Jesse. I have nothing to show to prove anything. I suppose I need to quit comparing boats to choppers. When flying I am all over the throttle and I give my esc a workout that is for sure. No blown esc's to date either. It stinks his blew. really stinks. I am just scared no matter what esc to plug in my packs and not be full throttle until it hits LVC.
