    Mean Machine build

    Hi All,

This was my winter project, which is now ready for testing ang sorting out. It is a mean machine, with an 11 turn Nemesis, Hacker 70, and FDM hardware. All the parts we had and the hull was one of Aeromarines flood units. We'll run it at 4S LIPO the way it is, and maybe up the motor and ESC to run 6S. A 3/16 flex shaft should handle the 6S.

    The way it came:

    Stripped down:

    Motor and ESC installed:

    FDM hardware installed:

Stuffing tube, servo, radio etc installed:

    Mount for sub hatch installed:

All unused holed sealed, flex shaft and prop installed, and we're ready to hit the water:

All in all it was a fun project, and didn't cost a fortune as we had most of the parts. Now to see how it runs. Stay tuned.

I don't know if it may be the picture angle, but in a couple pics your rudder looks bent. Just want to give you a heads up.

Nice, done the same (different setup and hardware) and you will love this boat. What are you going to use for sub hatch? No sealing tape?

From the looks of it, the sub hatch will have to have an arch to it over the motor.

Is that the FDM 21EGSRA? It looks great! on back of the MM. I have a set coming with a Mono hull.

I'm also guessing that you cut those self tapping screws flush with the tunnel of the hull as well.

And just a question, but why not leave the batteries in the sponsons? Not that the MM should have a CG problem but that would lower it and keep it planted in turns.

Overall, nice build! Get some video of it running!!
My prop hasn't been wet in a while.

Nice the only thing I would suggest is trying to strengthen the tunnel area with some carbon cloth.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes the rudder was slightly bent from the donor boat. Straightened right out with little effort. Sorry don't know the numbers on the hardware, but it was from my first FE, a wrecked Titan 21 built by FDM. The motor mount is bolted through the tunnel, then about an entire tube of JB weld. It has worked for us that way in the past. Where do I find carbon cloth?? Thanks again for the comments and tips.

Thanks. Next dumb question, what do you use to adhere it to the hull.

The easiest method is to use thinned epoxy. Mix up some slow set epoxy then thin it with alcohol, about 25% or so is usually enough. Brush some epoxy onto the hull where you want the cloth, lay the cloth down, then brush on a liberal coat of more epoxy to soak the cloth. Let dry and voila. Just be sure to mix up enough epoxy for the job.

If you use good quality(west systems etc) laminating epoxy(5:1 ratio) you should never have to thin it. Just wet the cloth out, lay it down and continue to squeeze as much epoxy out as possible. You need to prep and clean the surface your applying it to properly though. rub it down with some sandpaper(220-400 grit) and clean with alchohol, acetone, brake cleaner etc. The less epoxy the stronger the carbon is. Using peeply is a good way of getting the excess resin out, and creating a good surface.
                          Any more q's ask.
                          Tyler.
