i am looking for similar info. i have a 32" mono and am having problems with the heat. i run a feigao 10xl, etti 150 esc, 6s - 5000mah lipo's (can put out over 100amps). my problem is that i started with a x438 prop and temps were in the 150 range. i am trying to get high 40 to low 50 mph and with this small prop i can only get about 44 mph. i think that i can trim it out to lower the temp (it is pretty "wet" now) but i am scared to try a larger prop due to the heat. any suggestions are appreciated. a few questions are:

          1) should i have a seprate cooling pick-up for the motor and esc or is 1 good enough?
          2) is this etti 150amp enough esc for a 10xl on 6s?
          3) what settings should i be using? i have timing low, pwm 8k, 18v cutoff, no brake

i allready fried a hydra 120 but truly believe it was defective because it only lasted about 30 feet and didnt have enough time to get hot also i never hit full throtle to pull too many amps.. the support line told me they would replace it but recomended lower timing and also thought the set-up was not the problem. the etti esc wasn't that hot but the motor was. i have proper gap and shaft alignment so that isnt it.... PLEASE HELP!!!

            Temps

How long are you running the boat to get those temps?
One minute, two minutes, you got a broblem.
If you are running untill the batteries dump, ten minutes.
            [U]Don't run it that long.

I would suggest to check the following:

COG about 30-32% from transom and trim tabs level

Where is the point on the motor with the highest temperature. Is it on the back side on the center? If it is that so, I would recommend to use a thrust bearing or leave a very small gap between strut and drive dog so that the thrust forces end up on the strut. To be honest I do not know which one is better, but I believe the thrust bearing.

                    Chuck E , A 10XL too hot a motor for 6S
Fully charged the KV equals 39,000 RPM
                    Even at 21 Volts , thats 36,400 RPM .
Buy a 12XL if your sport running or at least a 11 XL and you can run bigger props and most of your heat problen will go away

Its not suprising you have heat.

I have yet to run a 6S mono. I just know that KVs coming out much over 30,000 is going to have heat problems .
                        I run a DF 33 on 4S2P NEU 1515 1Y . Performance is in your range .
I don't think Mad Mike Pag will mind sharing his set up simular to yours except 4S
If you want to run 6S , I'd try the 12XL , and not limit yoursels to 46MM props till you start getting some heat,
Or as I suggested , look at a 11XL and the props your suggesting

"I actually built one more boat, another deltaforce 33 mono" that has a Nemesis 10XL, and ran it on 4S2P with a 450/3 prop. It was fast and ran great also. I propped down to a 447/2 for racing because it was windy and choppy. I tried to run all 3 heats on the same set of cells, but forgot that I gave the boat to someone to try and he ran 6 or 7 laps, so 3 laps into the last race my boat was dead. I pulled it in and couldn't figure why it was dead. After a few minutes I remembered. "

                          Chuck;
If you spinn the drive line by spinning the prop nut will it make a couple of revolutions before it stopps? Is any thing binding ? Are you pulling the flex shaft and greasing the prop shaft after every run?
I ran my 36" deep vee with Fiegao 9XL for months this summer with up to an M447 at 49+ mph, with no heat issues. Short runs 1 1/2 minutes and more. At the end of the season I ran a 10XL for a while and no problems there and on 6S 4800mAh Elite LiPos also. I never ran a X438 the smallest prop was a X440 and the X442/3 gave me almost as much speed as the X645 at much lower Amp draw.
My boat weighs 9.5lbs ready to run. Your boat should be a rocket with that set up.
I wish I could examin it in the flesh.

ok i know what i am doing so i have the proper driveline set up, i use a bearing on the motor and a gap. i am going to try fly-guy's set up. i ordered a 12xl and varity of props from 642 to 645, i have 442, 445, 1450 to test with. if needed the 646,647 can be ordered but a 645 will get me 50mph which is all i am looking for. even at that speed my small pond gets real small..... it is about perfect for 40-45. i also got my watts up meter today that will help me get a grip on whats going on. thanks for all the advice and i will let you guys know what happens..

                              ok, one short run today.

1 1/2 min, check temp cool then 2 min with no time in between. temps all good, 64.5 peak amps.
boat slow, 40.8mph but temps low. tomorrow i will start proping up...

ok i ran it again today, didnt do much except put a x442 prop and have fun. got 45.5 mph and temps were low. it is a pretty good speed for the pond i was running. still need to work on the handeling a little. i ran it at the big pond and it could use some more speed but i was too busy with the gas boat (put a rcmk mod cylinder and piston plus carb today and was bussy tuning it, hauls the mail!!). then on the way home i ran it at the local pond (4 blocks from hone) and it was perfect speed there. here is a video

thanks for the help.... 12xl fixed it just as fly guy told me it would. mabee i will put the 10xl in the mhz flash
