    Titan 29 - SV27 Hardware Questions

    Hi Guys,

Last year I got an SV27 as my first FE boat. Before I even ran it I redid all the inside wood with aircraft grade ply, changed the speed control and radio, upgraded the prop, cooling, extra turn fin, etc. I ran it on 4s2p A123 cells. It was a lot of fun, but I want something better for the rougher water conditions where I run. This will be a sport boat and my first "build"

Is it worth re-using the SV27 hardware - is it "good enough". I want to make sure it will work ok before I drill some holes in my beautiful Titan 29 hull. Is there is a big difference upgrading to speed master hardware?

How far should the rudder extend below the prop? - 2"?
How far from the bottom of the transom should the prop shaft hole be located?

I am concerned that the SV27 turn fins are not long enough. Is there any documentation around on how they should be located?

Any other tips for setup. I did a search on the titan and got a fair bit of hits, but its seems mostly to deal with power setup.

    Thanks!

    Cheers,
    Dave

-probably, but since you have it, may as well try it. The speed master strut ($40) does give you that extra (perfect amount) distance out back, which I have been amazed how stable this makes it in rough water. It keeps it from doing the endo when it hits a wave, kicks up the bow and then lands butt end first - the prop out so far smooths out the landing and decreases pitching dramatically.

    - try 4" - I just measured mine; you definitely want to upgrade this!

    - my solinger strut put it pretty much at the bottom of the V

-they might be ok? they should be at the chine and perpendicular with the hull bottom

    - try searching on DF 29 also, similar boat with similar issues.

David, Do it right the first time and you'll be glad you did. Depending how you power it [ you didn't mention this], the Titan can be a fast, fun, rough water boat. It can corner at such high speeds that you want some heavy duty hardware. The SV turn fins will flex, bend & break at the cornering G's you can do with the Titan.

First off, mount the motor far back enough to get the batteries in front of it and close to the centerline to reduce chine-wobble. Also drill the drive strut up far enough [ 1/4" or more to keep some of the hull in the water. This hull loves to air out ! Will blow over in the mid-fifties as well. [9XL, Hydra 240, 4S2p, X442 or M445]

I just set mine up for a LSO race that allows the UL-1 powerplant [4-minute heats] with some "overkill" hardware - you gotta' finish to win -. OSE-style turn fins, Speedmaster rudder bracket with cut-down .21 nitro rudder {left & right turns in LSO}, shortened stinger, & large trim tabs (notched back some) a tad close to the V to keep the nose down.

I've run & raced mine for two years & it was raced in Australia before that. It's pretty beat up but It's a real "keeper"
      Do it right & you'll love this boat { & eat SuperVees for lunch }

        Thanks for the reply guys,

Jesse - the rudder is 4 in length total - I just mean how far should it extend into the water below the bottom of the transom. I would think about 2".

With regard to the turn fins - you mean the chines along the bottom of the boat right?

Tony - thanks for the pictures of your install. Thats definately one of the things I want to do on this build - get all the equipment as close as possible to the bottom of the V.

You mean 1/4" of hull from the bottom of the transom to the bottom of the drilled hole right.

Power I was planning to use the SV motor if I go with the SV hardware. Otherwise I'll sell the SV as a unit and upgrade the motor.

Would a Neu 1515 1Y on 4s2p A123 (The voltage is lower than 4s2p lipo) and a hacker 77 Navy be up to the task? Prop is a 642

        Cheers,
        Dave

1/4 " or a tad more from bottom of boat.

If you want to see the boat in action with a Feigao 9XL [ 1/3 the price of a Neu] on 4S2p lipo & an X442, go to YouTube, search Tony's P-Mono Aeromarine] This was before I moved the motor back & lowered the batteries to the centerline so you'll see some chine-wobble. A 9XL & the Hacker should do it just fine. Remember, Titans blow over pretty consistantly in the mid fifties & the Neu can get you to 60 easily

rudder measures 4" from the bottom of the hull - deeeeeeep. As Tony says, lots of g's on the 40-50 mph turns.

Thanks Tony for the pics, I can never get enough of the setup strategies on this boat!
