    Deep Vee from scratch

Hey, i'm building a 33 inch mono from scratch. It's about 10 inches wide. I'm almost done with my mold plug and i'll post some pics when i am. I'm planning to make it from carbon fiber hull and aluminized fiberglass over it for appearance. I am designing it a little like the delta force mixed with toysport triton. I will not be able to get any further than the mold plug until May when my wife will let me buy all the supplies and electronics. I work on sheetmetal and advanced composites for the Air Force so I know how to do the fabrication, however I would like some input with electronics i am putting in it since this is my first boat build. here is a list, let me know what you think and also maybe some prop sizes i can try with it.
    speed control:
HiModel GX Seires 200A 3-7S Brushless Electric Speed Controller Type GX-200A-OPTO
    motor:
    540 6XL 2,779 RPM / Volt
    battery:
    ZIPPY Flightmax 5000mAh 4S1P 25C

I am making my own dual rudder system with water pickups, trim tabs, turn fins, and cooling system for motor and speed control and planning to go with .062 wire drive system for 3/16 props. The hull should weigh around 1lb. Do these electronics sound like they would make this boat move pretty quick? I am building this boat for fun. I do not race, and I will probably use it 2 or 3 times a month during the summer months since i do not live by water. I wanted to build this to see if i can. I have no idea as to the prop size/pitch that would be good. If anyone can give me about 3 different prop size/pitch combinations I should buy to try in it I would appreciate it. I will post pictures of my mold plug when completed and also more build pictures later on when i get my supplies.

    My 2 cents:
do two batteries in parallel - you could use the weight

motor: go with 10XL (you may be tempted to go 5-6S as I am)

Speedo is good place to start

    Prop: start with X445, X645, maybe a Grimracer 4266 (I tried the 4466 and fried my HM200 on 6S with the XL10)
    "Look good doin' it"
    See the fleet

As Jesse J said I would definately go with a lower Kv motor like a 10xl, as for a prop you could try an M445 maybe even a M545. But I dont think you will need two 5.0 Ah packs in the boat, it will weigh to much and really affect the boats overall performance
      Come to the FASST side

Ok, thanks for the info. One of you had mentioned adding weight. Does this boat sound like it would be light? would a bigger heavier motor and 6s be good? i was also thinkin of the kb 45 1400kv with same everything else except use a 6s 25c 5000mah battery instead of the 4s. Would this be overkill of would this be a little easier on the motor/speed control having more power in a smaller boat? that would add about a pound overall to the boat bringing it to an estimated 6-7 lbs instead of the 5-6 lbs I'm estimating it to weigh with the 540xl and 4s. The boat should be able to displace enough water since 1 gallon is 8 lbs and the hull is definatly larger than 1 gallon. The kb 45 would have less overall RPM too even on 6s. Would that make it slower or just enable me to use a larger prop/pitch combo and keep the same speed? Also would heavier with more power make the boat more stable as i would imagine, or less stable?

If you want to step up in can size, I would suggest going with the Feigao 580L 10turn on 6s. The KB is a decent motor but the quality isn't so great.

Using the larger motor, with more Volatage, it will pull less amps and allow for a larger prop to maintain or increase the speed.

A happy tool would be the EagleTree system. It would tell you everything you need to know on your performance and whether you're using a good prop or too small/large of prop. If not, the Watt's Up Meter is cheaper and still give some critical info.
My prop hasn't been wet in a while.

I'll post some pics of what i have so far tomorrow. I can't rush this... I am married and had to trade driving my truck for my wife's truck to get the 800$ budget in order to buy the motor, esc, batt, charger, and carbon fiber to build this boat. She is already mad at me for paying as much attention to this boat as i am and i need to do take and upload the pics while she is at work in order to keep her from being upset. I will upload pics and I am anxious to get more info. As for the last post to my thread I'm thinking if i go bigger than a 540XL i think i might go KB45 just because it is cheaper and if i mess it up it is cheaper to buy a new one than a 580L. Also since i am looking for 2-3 uses a month for 6 months a year, quality is not so much an issue when i can buy 2 KB 45's for the price of 1 580L when the kb45 Should put out 1200 more watts than the 580L for roughly the same weight: however if i do go KB45 and it goes bad, the 580L is the way i would go as a retplacement. But as i said i am new and would rather mess up a cheaper motor than a more expensive one right off the batt. Thank you for your input though and i will upload pics of my completed mold plug tomorrow and maybe that will help with advice. Thanks!

                  pics

Alright, here are a couple pics of the mold plug i made for the boat. I painted it yellow and also drew windows on it with a sharpe to help visualize it... It is 30 inches long and 10 inches wide. The hull will be 1 layer of carbon fiber with 1 layer of aluminized fiberglass over it for looks. I am going to use resin with a translucent pigment added to give it the look of a "Candy paint". Then i will put a thin layer of clear coat resin over the top to smooth it out and then clear coat paint the whole boat to seal it and give it a nice gloss. My "paint job" will be the bare materials and i am using epoxy resin that will hold up to water without breaking down. I will make it out of 2 halves and use carbon fiber to join the 2 pieces and also put extra layers around the motor and back of the boat to stiffen those areas up. Some of the hardware i had started making for it is also in these pics. I am going to sand the rudders down some to make them thinner. I made them using some scrap metal that i had left from other past projects over the years. each rudder is made from 3 sheets of metal. The middle layer has a pathway cut out of it for water to flow through with a small piece of tube at the other end to hook up to the plastic tube fr the cooling system. to hold the sheets together i am going to vacuum a layer of carbon fiber over the rudders and re-cut the hole in the leading edge for the water pickup. The rudders are 1 inch wide, about 1/8 inch thick at the trailing edge, and 4 inches long. Sorry the pics aren't the best, but i took them with my phone. Next time i put some on here i will use my camera, but my wife has the camera today. Let me know what you think so far! hopefully it looks liek its on a good path. Also again, this boat is for fun, not racing, so it looks like it will work, that's all i need.

Looks like the 580L will be too big and the KB45 are on sale but I am not sure if you will find any and if Steven brings them again. A feigao 9XL on 4s would be fine also.
