single big motor or twin motor pros and cons

I bought a TP100 540kv to run in a 62inch or 66inch mono boat to race offshore and to use 12s setup

Would it be better to use twin motors ?

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated

    Regards Michael

with that motor the biggest problem is to find a good prop and prop shaft because 12kw is a lot in a rc boat ,this motor has the power to push this hull so easy

Contact member Peter A, he builds and races large offshore endurance boats and would have more experience on setup for you.

That's a big boat and motor. Kv sounds good, you are going to need a good esc.
What are your goals in regards to speed and runtime?
Bear in mind that if running true offshore in rough water, boats are not that fast.

Speed wise I would like a top speed of about
62-64mph just if possible to over take down the back straight
If it?s really rough then I know the top speed will not be a issue
The fastest boat at the moment is my old race
Boat at 58mph in a 58 inch boat

Was thinking with the big motor running it to a gearbox and twin drives for fun

Putting the 540kv in to the speed calculator
I only need to run 74mm prop which the
TP100 should have no trouble with

Ok, so a twin set up might be fun, but if you are racing, the simpler you keep things the better, a twin gearbox will suck power. You are going to have to test your setup when you have it done. How much battery are you carrying, Mah wise? How long are your races timewise?

              Race times are 7 minutes
              Going to run 4 x 10900 6s batteries in sp2
              So about 22amps at 12s I can add 2 x more
6s 10900 batteries to give me more run time if needed depending on the percentage left
              When testing
The other problem at the moment is finding motor mount for this motor
May have to design and make myself
