    DF 29 build

Should I use rails in my build or will I be ok just epoxing everything to the bottom of the hull including this motor mount?

    Thanks, Alvin

Setup will be Feigao 10xl, Fullers hardware, Hydra 120 w/external BEC, octura x447 prop, and Flightpower 4s1p lipo.

If it was me, I'd definately put rails in. But whether they are really needed or not is argumentative,

On my DF 26, I installed minimalist rails just to mount stuff onto. Before doing that, I layed in an extra layer of fiberglass on the bottom of the hull.

If it is an original DF29, you could probably mount directly to the floor. They're fairly thick. If it's a copy, I would use rails, or lay some carbon cloth in there for extra stiffness.

My DF33 copy has a layer of carbon added, and everything mounted to the floor (same mount as you showed). It's more than strong enough, but was flimsy without the carbon.

Good point. Fiberglass is pretty poor at adding stiffness, far better to lay in some carbon fiber or to epoxy in a pair of graphite kite booms. Either adds far more stiffness than a layer or two of glass cloth.

Ok went with rails and made my own motor mount to copy the mount in my Fullers DF33.

                What do yall think?
                I'll post completed pics later

I didn't weigh it but it is light, made of .064 aluminum.

Weight will not be an issue as you are running 4s, if anything you will need to add a slight amount of weight.

Is the extra piece of timber and aluminium to mount your speed controller to ?

Agree, I have a 29" copy and I've used the original plywood rail, a bit shortened!

I've got the same boat as Ed, but had the manufacturer put in an extra layer of glass when he was laying the boat up.
I didn't use rails but if i did it again i think i would definitely put the rails in.

Why not mount the speed controller to the mounting plate that bolts down ? - You'll save a little weight
