If it is balanced, and moving, the air takes control of the boat, and proper trimming. I have seen the to much weight idea many times, and when you ask people who race week in and week out..they never have weighted their setups, because they know it is setup that creates speed!
This 338 cowl trimmed up was 7.5oz

You will never ever again buy a glass hydro.

If build right, with sharp edges, YES.
Also the glass hull makers can not keep up with the changes in hull design.

You can also make your own changes to try something out, or incorporate a change that someone else has done that works.

The new boat ran good right out of the box in Atlanta. By the 2nd run the GSX 338 was fast and cornered great. Started with ABC H-5 and positive strut angle. The boat hopped down the straight. Doug Twaits helped me on the set-up. We leveled the strut angle and tried an ABC 1815 17 2 blade and the boat aired out and ran great. Pretty much ready to race. The strut dept was set so the bottom plane of the hull was parallel with the set-up board. Played with fin angle to settle the boat down a bit more. Ran 4 runs on Friday practice and was satisfied with the performance.
The 338 behaved pretty well in 7 boat heat race water. I tried a 1914-17 ABC 2 blade in the 3rd heat and flipped it. Boat was stupid fast, but the nut behind the wheel pushed it too hard after nailing the start. Lots of glare late in the day is tough to race in. Ended up in 3rd place for the class. Will be tuning on it a bit more before Sundays MMEU club race #1 next weekend. I have a video of a test run I will post later today.

Those ML are fast when setup. You may try a ABC 1816 2 blade prop.

Just saw a video of the GSX338 over on the Pearl page running in the same heat. These P sport hydros are really running fast these days!

Yes, they are really hauling it. I kinda ducked out of P sport, can't keep up.

Boat looks good as usual, Bob! Although, I kinda like the old 'Mojo Racing' sticker with the flags better!

                          Bob

In the video you were running about lane 4-5
But your lap times were still 13 -14 - 14 seconds for the three laps.

                          Now that is quick.

                          Two lap record coming up?
