Tony.
The only ESCs I use these days are the HiModel GX 200A with BEC .
There's a thread running about them on this forum.
HiModel GX Seires 200A 4-8S Electric Speed Controller W/BEC Type GX-200A-BEC from manufacturer HiModel, in category Brushless Speed Control (BL ESC) - Air/ Helis, Electric Speed Control (ESC).
Haven't blown one yet, but 4s & maybe 100A max in the cat is well within its limits.
I'll be trying one on 6s with a 580/9L in the K7 Bluebird when I get that built, so that will be a bit more of a test for them.
Cheers.

Did the c/f work. First time so it looks 70% ok
(had to use my phone´s crappy cam, sorry)
I did 2 layers on sponsons and one on everywhere else.
And I hope that every 1 who has this hull would check this thread below and reply if yours is the same

I got it from Biltema (local automotive/boat/etc shop)
I used laminating epoxy that is made for this.
There is some pics on the "carbon fiber" -thread
Just installed the rudder, now I need to know where to drill stuff tube hole and mount for motor....

edit.stuff tube installed. trying to glue motor mount later today, will be ready to test friday! (and after that the finishing touches will begin...and that will take a lot of time)
edit#2 motor mount is in!
This will be finished in so short time that I need to get another project to work on the whole cold winter...Attached FilesLast edited by FastVee; 08-19-2009, 12:56 PM.Comment

Tony.
The 580 9L is only 1426Kv. So on 6s it's 29,557rpm with no load. Factor in say a 15% load factor ( depending on prop) that's only around 25,000rpm.
I don't think that's too high. Possibly not high enough.
The 10L would be a couple of thousand revs lower than that.
I like to run smaller diameter, higher pitch props. The revs & speed seem to be up higher with lower current draw from what I've seen & experienced in other boats with other motors.
We'll have to wait & see with this one.
Cheers.

I have a couple boats where alum tubing is run all the way from the transom to the motor and ESC. Actually really like it that way...it is epoxied up under...no chances of kinks and all that and I get great water. I have a set of the KS tube bender springs and they work pretty well on the alum.Comment

I cant find any aluminium tubing here, only alloy brakeline and it is too smal dia pipe... So I used brass.
Almost done! (only 3 batterystraps left to install...)

Ok, the boat is ready to test drive tomorrow!
The xtra long motor sits really high, the lid does close(just), but the water jacket fittings must be on the sidesI think that I may need to cut the mount off and make custom mount that allows mounting it lower.
This is my first cat and I dont know good basic settings to start fine tuning.
-strut level with or bit higher then sponsons?
-HiModel timing? -I heard that the Xl can could like the 7 setting on hm timing?
-what is the max prop you have used on this setup? (4s 200A 8XL) Prather s220 too much?
Anything else?

Looking forward to hear how the run goes7 degrees should be fine but you might want to try it at 1 for the first few runs and check your temps. As for the prather 220 it might be a bit to much for the first run JMO since you'll notice alot more torque and rpm than the SV motor in your DF29. If you have a smaller prop try it first, you'll be able to work your way up once you have it trimmed out with the strut angle/height and CG.
Keep us posted, looking forward to it.
