    Outboard leg advice

I am in the process of drawing up plans for a 42" F1 tunnel
I am considering two options for the outboard leg:-

    Outboard lower unit - ose-80915-v2

Hyper performance 7.5 bullet outboard complete - hpi-7.5-bullet outboard

Can anybody tell me which of the two options would be the best one for my application

The tunnel is going to be scratch built from timber, and the motor will be chosen to accompany the final choice of leg
The costs of the legs is not important, I just want to pick the most suitable for my application.

Thanks for any help in advance.

I agree on the Bullet. For that sized boat, you want a 7.5 sized unit. The Bullet Drive is solid!

My 7.5 bullet drive arrived 2 days ago,(excellent service), the question now is what motor do I go for?
I have been looking at the following options:-
            40 series Leopard or
            40 series SSS
Speed controller and batteries will be determined by which motor and size.
I am new to fast electrics and I do not have sufficient knowledge to make the choice, I do not want to buy one that is not suitable.
Any advice would be grately appreciated.

            Regards

            Steve

That is a pretty large boat for that size leg. Club members run 45" OPCs with large gas-powered legs. I am certainly not saying it won't work, but I would suggest using a minimum 6S power; more is better. The higher the voltage the less stress on the electric components. What is the largest prop which will fit on your leg? That will help determine which motor, ESC and packs are appropriate. Plus what the OP's expectations are for the boat - racing or sport running, speed and runtime, budget, etc.

Is the planned hull based on a proven design? Will it carry the extra weight of FE and still be able to plane off easily? More information is needed to give proper guidance.

                Thanks for the reply,
Max prop size is 65mm and as for the usage, it is most likely to be used for "messing about on the water" , nothing serious like racing,(it is just for fun)
The design is a proven design and the budget for things like motor, batteries, and speed controller will be in the region of $1000.
Any advice will be much appreciated.

                Regards

Further to my original questions on motor selection for my new F1 tunnel build I have added the 15series Neu motors to my list of options, I have also determined hull size to be 990mm x 432mm, and max prop dia. to be 65mm.
I should also say that my original budget should have read £1000 ($1250), and not $1000.
Any advice on motor, speed controller, and batteries would be most welcome.
Being new to fast electrics I am sure that there are things that I have not considered so any comments on anything would be very helpful.

                    Regards
