I just use 10 gauge wire & 5.5mm bullets, because that's what is on the rest of the system. That's basicaly the same as all my other 4s & 6s boats.
But bigger is always better. I use 8mm connectors & 8 gauge wire on one of my 1/8 scale hydros.

Battery opening is 62mm wide through the hatch, but 82mm between the tub sides, once you're in there.
Length is 240mm, with 60mm height at the rear & 40mm at the front.

I hope you have as much fun putting yours together as I have with this one.

I actually think that safety loop is a good idea in all honesty. Protests those who are in a retrieve boat from potential hazard, well, at least minimizes it!

I like it too. Many in the west don't because of the extra wire on their high amp setups or something else??

Too true Mike.
I've had to pick a boat out of the water in the rescue boat that had radio issues & the full reving X645 prop was just hunting for blood. A quick pull on the plug & all was safe.

Some people are also concerned about corrosion from the bullets being wet. But they don't corrode.
They are compulsory in a lot countries around the world.
For higher amp setups I've seen 8mm connectors with two pieces of 8 gauge wire in them.

Had that on my p mono, 8mm with two 10g wires. It's retired to P limited now.

Well this bird is painted now, & back on the bench to have all the gear refitted.
Hopefully I'll get a couple of test runs in after the racing finishes at our club tomorrow.

For the final assembly I drilled 2mm holes throught the Boom sleeves & booms for some 2mm carbon rod locating pins. I simply wrapped a layer of hatch tape around them to help keep them in place.

The turn fin was fitted with some 8gauge self tapping screws into the timber backing blocks. I drilled tight holes including an extra one for relocating the fin further back if needed, because I've managed to build it a bit tail heavy in relation to where the fin is shown. Then I drove a screw in, to make a thread, remove the screws & dribble some CA glue into the holes so it is absorbed into the wood to strengthen & seal the it.
When completely dry I screwed on the fin with a bit of silicone to seal the holes.

Final setup is.
TP 4060 6D 2430kv motor.
Swordfish 220 pro Esc.
4s 5000mah pack.
ABC 1817-17-45 prop
Weight RTR is 3089g which is about 6lb-13oz. Pretty heavy perhaps. But I added bits & pieces into it for strengthening.

It will be interesting to see what other peoples weight ends up at, in comparison.

I only ran a few laps because the rear o ring on the can leaked water into the boat creating a slight issue with the ESC. It stopped. But she certainly had a great turn of speed in those couple of laps. And cornered beautifully.
The next run will be better.
The ESC was fine once I removed the heatshrink & dried it all out. I didn't get round to sealing it in my rush the night before to get the boat ready for the club day.
I didn't do a water pressure test like I normally do before a maiden. Amazing isn't it. The one time you don't do a simple thing, is the one time that there is a problem.

Looks real good! Weight doesn't matter, especially not with the power plant you are using. I would like to know what kind of speeds you get out of it with that setup, should be well into the 70's. Thanks for sharing your build Paul! Mike

What depth should the strut be in relation to the rear sponsons on this boat? For that first run I set it up like this. It was all I could find at the time.

You know, I usually set mine up that same way, but the boat was running better in rough water by bringing the bottom of that strut up level with the trailing edge of the rear shoes. I think it kept the bow up just a touch more, and it handled the big waves without stuffing. Mike

No, I didn't get out last weekend.
But next weekend is a full practice day at the club. So I'll get some good runs on her then.
The Keps 21 will have her maiden test run then too. So it will be an interesting day.
