how to install decals

I have a set of decals to install on my boat.
never done it before.
what is the best method?

this is the way i do it :

some water with a little soap i it

apply that on the hull and a little on the decal with soft sloth ( no need for foam)

put the decal on the hull , you can slide the decal around on the wet surface

when decal is in the right position :take a dry cloth and push the soapy water that is between the hull and decal to the edges
it takes a while to get away all the water , best way is to start in the middle and try to get the water and air that is trapped to the edges

when all the water is removed the decal will stick to the hull without losing it's ability to "glue" ( sorry for my english)

be sure to get all the water/soap from inderneath the decal , like i wrote this will take some effort
