Darin's Banzai HydroSports Rev2 Experimental Hydro Build

I've had this project on the shelf for a couple of years now, and decided to pull it down and get it finished up.

This is what I call a "Banzai HydroSports 30", which is the second revision of one of my first original designs from back in 2007...

Worked to take out a lot of the aero-lift and I widened the stance, which may work against me as it will add back some of the aero-lift. But, steps have been taken to attempt to minimize this lift, so I guess we'll see.

    Construction is Wood Over Foam.

Here it is compared to my PT Stealth:

At this point, I'm just filling and sanding and filling and sanding...

Man, that boat has some really nice lines! Beautiful!! Nice scratch build!! Does it pack a lot of air, or is it bleeding out the sides of the sponsons?

If I did my job correctly, it'll be the later. Bottom has almost no AoA, and it's designed to run flat.

Sponson ride-pads will be taped on initially, until I figure out what I need exactly. Have a designed angle in mind, and patterns, but want some flexibility. The final set will be designed to be "integral" looking, so they blend in with the rest of the design.

I'm also considering making these active control surfaces... or at least adjustable in some fashion.

Actually, I'm tinkering on this in parallel with my Stealth. While one is drying, the other is getting sanded.

Hey Darin, I think I asked you this before, but what kind of filler are you using? Is it easily sandable? Thx!

I'll have to look at the can again, but I think it's Evercoat light-weight filler. Not particularly difficult to sand, but it does go through sandpaper.

I am currently looking into other types of paper to see if I can find something that'll last a bit longer.

This sanding and filling part if the part I hate the most of doing this type of project. Messy, and takes forever, especially when you are a perfectionist.

Up in the straights, down in the corners?

How dare you use filler on a wood boat! lol...

Hahahaha... If I were leaving it "wood look", I wouldn't, but since I'm sealing and painting it, I wanted it to be closer to perfect.

I like to use Evercoat - Everstar - Micro Glass Bubbles

Sands nice but does use a lot of sandpaper.
