    Looking good Mike.
    Your colour scheme sounds brilliant.
Silver is the base coat for the anodised paints too. I used that system when I repainted my 33" Whiplash. It certainly brightens up the colours.

It seems a lot of us tend to have that problem coming into the back straight. I often end up heading inside the first buoy of turn 3 & have to veer left a bit.

I once hit first buoy of turn 3. The sponson of my Whiplash was stuck in Styrofoam buoy. Mr. Smock (moderator) retrieved it for me...thanks !

Looking really good Mike! You have the nose cut out perfectly. Fits real tight to the deck. Nice job!

Thanks guys for all your input....Seems we all are having about the same difficulty with that turn 3....LOL
Wonder if the club would be interested in putting some funds together so we could build say a 6 man platform for our site. It wouldn't need to be any higher than about 6ft. I'm sure it would have to be something that we could take apart at the end of the day...not sure the park would allow us to leave it up for the summer.

I would be happy to help design and build the thing. What do you think MMEU??

This will likely happen for the 2017 season. I never put together a budget for it but I did get a green light from Shelby township. They just wanted a plan to review before hand. It has to house 12 people plus a CD and a turn marshal. There is also the slope to deal with.

              Hey Terry....

Was just reading the other forum on battery capacity limit rules....LOL WOW....quite an undertaking.

Yep...your right. Forgot about each driver and the spotter. So we would need to house 14 folks. WOW...this thing is going to be a giant platform.
Has Shelby ok'd the structure being left up all summer? Not to worried about the slope as long as the township does not have a problem with temporary concrete leveling pads being set. Of course it would be best to be able to bury the posts. Let me know if you have some plan ideas. I am basically going off the race track platforms that we built out at our RC club field. Nice and sturdy! I'll submit some ideas when I get them together....Who knows may be we can still pull it off this year.....LOL

              Mike

Need to go put my painting outfit on......LOL

I sincerely hope you guys get something together with the approval of the local authorities.
It will be a blessing for the club.
I'm sure you have people in the club that can dig holes, mix a bit of concrete, weld a bit of steel, & screw down a bit of flooring.

Yeah, sorry about that. You'll find me in the midst of that kind of thing all the time. I was one of the tools that wrote some of the rubbish we call rules. A number of us have been involved over the years. They'll never be perfect. Consider the source. haha

The stand would be permanent. So casing in the ground and such. I started to draw the thing. Never finished it.

                    Finish Painting

Completed the finishing work this weekend on the Pearl. Final sanding and cleaning with KC20, then 2 coats of primer with a light sanding in between coats. Then sprayed 2 coats of silver base coat and then finalized it with 2 coats of Kandy Apple Red. The Kandy can be tricky to make sure you get nice even coats with the right amount of over lap so you don't end up with blotches of dark or light areas. When done I was pretty pleased with the finish. After about 2 1/2 hours was able to apply the graphics and start the clear coat. Got 2 coats of clear and let dry over night. After inspecting it this morning the finish turned out really nice. The Kandy Red looks incredible coming thru the clear. There is a few areas that could use some more clear, so thinking I might scuff up the clear coat and spray another clear coat tonight. Then maybe not....LOL,,,,,,,,but still have some clear mixed so might as well use it.

So some lessons learned and pros/cons....lol
Went with 1 coat of epoxy for the sealing process...should have applied 2 but was trying to save some weight....not a good idea.
The grade of ply on some pieces was bit stringy and left some areas that you can notice in the grain. Should have inspected it a lot closer and applied another coat of epoxy.

I used HOK paints again and their process and system has been flawless. When they say to mix and spray it this way....follow the process and you will have a fantastic finish. So when it says to allow full dry for 12 hours at a normal 65 to 70 degrees...follow it.
At about 6 hours went out to see how it was doing and it felt all nice and dry......NOT!!!!! I jumped the gun and set it on its stand. Left some slight impressions on the bottom of the clear coat. .... Nothing that won't polish out with some polish compound.
However went back out this morning and the finish had completely dried.....however I'll be giving it another few days to fully cure before starting any polishing etc.

So now starts the process of re-rigging all the hardware and lets see if she floats....LOL.....

                      Excellent.
                      Love the graphics.
I don't worry too much about marks on the bottom of the boat. The only one who sees them is the guy in the rescue boat after you've flipped it.

                        Paul...your right on that!!!....lol

Some of the top rail at the rear didn't get the clear coverage I wanted either, but live and learn on this one. Nobody will probably tell the difference, but I know it there.

Definitly not my one of my best jobs, but did try some different finishing techniques that I have learned from for future builds.!
                        ITS STILL REALLY PRETTY THOUGH!!.:.LOL.

Looks real nice. You can wet sand the rough areas with 900 grit paper and spray the clear again. Overspray can be wet sanded off with 1200 grit then polished. Most paints are designed to be repairable.

Looks cool with the white hatch.
I see you found some clearcoat that doesn't affect the plastic. What was it?

                              Thanks Paul...

I did find some of that VHT SP-184 you were talking about at a local auto parts place over here. Did find out the hard way that it sprays pretty thin, so you really have to take it easy on the coat thickness or you'll get runs. Ended up sanding a bit at the nose where it ran and re-shot it. Worked out great with thinner coats. Also leaves a nice finish. Did also notice that it darkens the white a bit to more of an off-white which was fine. Like the gloss finish it gives it....Thanks for the tip!!!

Just need to finish of the main canopy with the VHT, but still waiting on my other exhaust pipe for the right side exhaust. They sent me 2 left sides...LOL Once I have that in place, I'll spray the VHT finish.
