    cut a flex shaft

    i have to trim a flex shaft and tin the end but not sure if i have the right stuff. one roll of solder said rosin/core 60/40, i have used this in wire, the other roll said silva bright, but thats all i can read, think it is a plummer silver solder for copper pipes. but not for sure. will the other 60/40 work ok for flex shaft

        ok thank you, and yes i have read a lot of the info thanks. just wanted to make sure before i cut up a new flex shaft

          I would use the plumbing solder... You need some tinning solution (acid) you take a propane torch and get it setup with the smallest flame you can get. You don't need much heat at all. Put a few drops of the tinning solution on the end of the cable and slowly heat the end of the cable, the acid will begin to bubble and while its bubbling feed the solder directly into the end of the cable while heating and it don't take much solder either... while the cable is still warm wipe the excess solder off with a wet rag before the solder cools... nice and clean. That's the way I do it... this is also how you prep the end of the cable for soldering a ferrule on a cable for a stub shaft

                This stuff works great, I use it now too! Just be sure to dip it in some baking soda afterwards (in water) to neutralize the acid. However, nothing that I've tried will clean a cable that's been greased previously. Acetone, carb cleaner, sanding... Nothing works. Does anyone have any solution that actually works for that?
