Modifying round drives for more lift??

Anyone ever do anything to their round stinger drives to generate more lift? For example, if a hull was running a little more wet than desired and you wanted to help it get up out of the water. Rather than totally swapping out round drives for square drives, anyone ever tried fitting square tubing over your round drives or attaching a flat surface to the bottom to achieve this? Mostly I ask because I'm looking at 1/4" scale drives for a twin cat and the square options are a bit more costly than the round drives. I can make round ones square in a couple of ways, but I wondered if anyone else had tried this and been successful.

    Thanks,
    Michael P.

I tried this many years ago, but saw virtually no difference in lift. Usually better to angle the shaft down slightly at the prop end if you need more transom lift.
