    New Q Hydro Build

    Hi All
Yesterday I got the mouldings for my next build. It is the 1982 Executone hull. This is 10% smaller than 1/8 and has been run as sport 45. Our Club president (Steve Trott) owns the moulds and these have been moulded by Damian Baker who makes Baker boats here in NZ.

I have a TP 4092 1620kv motor to power this one and will probably get a sf220 esc, although I have a spare T-180 v2 sitting around at the moment. I won't be doing a scale theme with this one, just yellow like my other boats (so I can see it!) This build will take a while, as you can see the first mission is to trim and join the hull and deck. As this has been designed around nitro setups I will have to do a little of work on the cowling to be able to seal it for FE.

Ok a small update. I have trimmed the mouldings and started to build an edge to join the hull and deck. Slower than I want but I have spent the last week shifting my workshop and I am fairly stuffed at the moment. And just when I'm over shifting stuff, our house might be sold tomorrow so it'll be shifting house next month. I must be a sucker for punishment!!
Any how here's a couple more pics.

The cowl is normally offset on these but I'm going to set it up on centre as I think it will look better and I can make a cut out on the left side where the motor is for ease of access.

Well time to update this build thread. Shifting is done and I have been chipping away at things. Edging is done and turn fin strengthening with an ali plate overlaid with cf.

I've installed flotation (pool noodle because that is what I had on hand) and glued in the motor mount and a couple of carbon spars in front of the motor to strengthen the tunnel so it doesn't flex.

I have decided to go with an off-center driveline as it will make the build easier and this hull was designed that way anyways. The offset is 20mm but I am still going to mount the rudder on the right. Doing this means very little hatch work also. The hatch will get some magnets to locate and hold then tape to seal. Keeps things simple.

So over the last week the hull and deck have been joined, stuffing tube, strut and rudder fitted. I had to make a bracket for the rudder.

Battery box made from a small storage container, esc mount in place and I polished a few bits, totally stoked with how shiny I got them.

So I have only finished this to running stage at this time. I want to get it dialed in and race it before the end of the year. It has been for a first run and went well except for radio issues. For some reason swordfish esc's and fylsky/turnigy GT3b radios don't work well as it had the exact same cutting out issues that another club member had with his boat. His solution change the radio, so next time. Other than only having full throttle and control on the front straight and turn 1, the boat ran well and turned well also. Enough so that our club Pres., whose moulds the boat was taken from, and who runs nitro versions of this and the 1/8 version in Executone colors, simply said "I have to do an electric one". So when I can get a chance to run again I should be able to do full laps and get this dialed in. Even with the short initial run it still managed a full speed blowover without damage and several minutes upside down with nothing more than a few drops of water inside. Plenty of potential here I think.

Yes the strut is offset, the nitro version is more so. The original offset is around 7/8" (22mm). I did move it a little closer to centre though, it is only around 1/2" off. Also due to the hatch offset also I have ended up with an 's' bend in the shaft due to having to put the motor in an accessable position. One of the (several) reasons for not painting yet is so any changes can be made if needed. Just need some more water time for testing, probably club race day on Sunday!

And a couple of the hatch. I have put tabs at the back and neodyminum magnets at the front. This is just to hold the hatch down generally but it is also taped for running to seal it.
