    Water jacket and motor problem

Hi all, i've just got the motor for my new boat and was planning to use a water jacket i already had. The motor is the "TP Power - 4050-3Y - 2050KV - V1" and the waterjacket are the "TP Power - CJ40L Cooling Cap" . According to the website the jacket should fit the motor but don't, when i connect water to the inlet it leaks in the o-rings. The jacket fit but the o-rings are not tight enough to seal, also the jacket sit very loose on the motor.

So i'm wondering if i can just replace the o-rings rather than purchase a new waterjacket, and if so wher to buy them and what size rings should i buy?

You can buy a lot of replacement o rings here on ose, but it sounds like it isn't the correct jacket. Maybe the v1 motors are different? Mcmaster-carr sells all kinds of o rings, but without knowing what you have and how far off you are I don't think anybody can tell you what size, you would have to experiment.

i think i'm off 0,5 - 1 mm on the o-ring hole (inside diameter) Kevin, as it should have been that much smaller without effecting the outer diameter which is perfect.

Tp changed the size of their can like a year and a half ago by making them shorter but also, narrower by a mm or so.

I would call TP power usa, they're very helpful and might have the correct cooling can, they're only like 15 bucks.

Thanks, but it's not so cheap here in Norway, it will cost me like 30$ to get it here in Norway, thus me trying to get different o-rings instead

The motors are 39.5mm now. Not 40mm.
Oversize rings can be bought from your local Bearing & Seal supply store for just a few cents. I'm sure there's one near you. Take the motor & can along. They will sort you out with the right size rings.
See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

I'm afraid i need to order through the net as i live in the middle of nowhere :D Thanks for getting the correct motor measure, so i guess i should get a o-ring that are 39.5 mm inside and 40.5 mm (or 41.5 mm?) outside diameter - thickness at 1 mm?

Whenever this happens, I never bother to get the "O" ring, I use silicone sealant to seal the whole dang thing from outside. Just the GE Silicone Sealant
( for bathroom or window sealing)---I don't know if you have similar product in Norway. I seal it very neatly and it never give me trouble.
                    Just my $.02!
                    Cheers!

That's actually a great idea tlandauer, i'll keep that in mind as a backup plan. Will call a company that are big on o-rings tomorrow, if they can help me great - if not i'll go for your suggestion.

using silicone as you suggested didn't work tlandauer, it leaks like hell even with that on and it never cured. (after 1 day it was still sticky as hell. Also the dealers of o-rings didn't have anything according to the mesurements i posted previously. So the question now is if i can aircool the motor as i refuse to purchace a new jacket just because the o-rings are wrong. On top of that the dealer here in norway seams to have blacklisted me because they messed up a previous order that got missing in the mail on it's way to me

Very sorry that it didn't work, may I ask you if the silicone is relatively new? They do have a shelf life. This is what i use:

it should cure, make sure there is no oilly substance on it.
