    Need Hull Advice!

I am getting back into the hobby again after a few years ago when I sold everything. I have been looking around and decided to basically build my own instead of buying rtr. My main concern is what hull to buy. I need something that can handle a little bit of chop and speeds of 55+ with no problem. I am just getting back into the hobby, so I want to keep this as cost effective as possible. Here is what I have so far. Let me know your thoughts! Thanks!

    Motor: Leopard 4082 1600kv
    ESC: Seaking 180amp
    Hull: Traxxas Spartan
    Batteries:Turnigy 5000mAh 3S 40C Lipo Pack (2)
Charger:Duratrax Onyx 245 AC/DC Dual Charger with Balance
    Prop: Octura x642
    Connectors: 5.5mm bullets on everything

So you want a v hull? If so a good budget one would be a delta force. If you want a pretty much bullet proof hull I'd recommend a Keith Bradly 34" mono. I have one and chop at 55 is nothing to it.

I've been meaning to add the links. Been busy all day. Here's the kbb, it's twice the price but it's worth it. Very strong and capable of pretty decent speed.

For a delta Force, the Cyberstorm is a touch smaller, but everybody comments on it as being one of the best in the chop, I do own a Cyberstorm, but I haven't driven the others. If I build another smaller mono, though, it will likely be the KBB34.

Here's a video of it, I can't find one in chop tho. This is my sport setup. I tuned on it some and swapped props and it's a little faster now. Note: it would turn even better if the turn fins weren't so small.

Is there a certain hull that the motor will fit in with little/no work? I dont care if it is a mono or cat, I just want it to be solid enough to withstand the speeds that setup will push it. Are there any RTR boats with that setup already in it?

The kbb mono is a solid hull that wouldn't really require extra work. Just drop the mounts n hardware in and it'd be a great boat.

Jake I am like you, looking for a new hull to use some of my electronics and motor (Leo 4082 1600kv and T180 ESC) into another boat. I discovered this KBB34 the other day and KFX's build threads on OSE and KBB forums pretty much sold me. Its probably not too much work to get a boat like this in the water. I think with our similar motor and ESCs we are looking to use it would be a decent sport setup with plenty of room for improvement (bigger motor, esc, etc.)

If you really want a nice RTR boat, check out the RTR pursuits for sale on kintec's website. They can even be ordered with custom paint and look awesome. They have some RTR cats like the mean machine and a few others. If you want a mono, and the KBB34 seems like too much work or cost, then a pursuit isn't a bad choice either.

KFX guy, can you list the hardware components you used for the build? ie - turn fins, tabs,. rudder, etc. I haven't seen it listed in any of the threads (unless I missed it somewhere...)

It looks like you went with the strut setup over the stinger? To do that, you need to build a flood chamber, correct?

I am seriously considering this boat and have come to the conclusion that building a quality boat from a hull isn't too hard as I did with my carbon fightercat Daytona. That boat has been light years better than my Spartan.

I'll be glad to help any of you guys get one together. I'd recommend doing one layer carbon inlay. It doesn't need it for the strength, but mainly for looks. Off white fiberglass gets dirty and nasty looking in a hurry, you can't do an inlay, I can do it for you. Now on to hardware...

A 4082 and t180 will push it fairly well. This hull is quite efficient. It's should do mid 60's with that setup.

                      Rudder: http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...ckets+%26+More

Strut: You could do a stinger, which would be easier but does not have the adjustability so speed capability essentially goes down some. How much? Depends on how far off you mount the stinger. Make sure you get the round bottom one! http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...=ros-spdss-001
I chose a flooded tube for my strut. I'm pretty sure I outlined it in my build.
I used the kintec adjustable motor mount.

                      Savox servo http://www.ebay.com/itm/Savox-SW-023...item5b05bd9485

.187 flex, mbp collet (highly recommend) http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...?prod=mbp-1000

I used the xl battery trays, I chose to run them along side the motor for balance and lots of adjustment.

                      Trim tabs. http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...prod=ose-80925

I used the smaller carbon turn find but larger ones would be much better if your looking to turn
Here mine is on 6s (it did go 68.2 when batts were fresh)

I appreciate all the help guys! Sadly, that's out of my price range. I was hoping to try and get everything for around 500-600, including batteries, a charger, and upgrades...I am getting back into the hobby so I have to replenish my setup first!

I don't think your going to buy everything you need to get started that cheap. You may want to rethink your budget. A couple batteries and a charger will eat up at least $200. Esc $100, motor $100, hull $100 and I'm guesstimating it on the low side. Well good luck to you!
