    Central RC SV43

Well it's been over two years since I've documented a build on here. The first few I did were both twin powered Fightercat 37" Daytona's. Next was a 45" single powered Speedfreak Hydro. They all were really fun build's for getting my feet wet in the hobby. But it was time to go LARGER! This is the first of two I'll be completing over the next few month's. I've been hoarding some parts, gathering up more parts and certainly pinching pennies for some of the stuff I have.

First up is a 59" Central RC SV43 Outerlimits. I picked this up last year from a local fellow member who was kind enough to give me a great deal on it. It came with some hardware which will be gutted to make room for it's new powerplant.

It will again be a twin, powered by two MHZ Scorpion 5035 760kv outrunner's. I considered going inrunner but that will be saved for the BIGGER build coming up next. Plus, I love the sound of the outrunners at full speed! These are specially made for MHZ and have cooling ports bored in the housings. These are pretty beefy and are capable of 5800 watts continuous and peak at 8100 watts power. Max continuous current is 150 amps and they can handle up to 10s Lipo's but more than likely I'll be running 7 or 8s. I had an aluminum mount custom made for me by Herve at Mini-Meca-rc.fr to handle the power. I also picked up a pair of MBP collets to match the 10mm shaft's.

I need to say a special thanks to all the parts suppliers I've been dealing with over the last year or so. It's been quite the long list of miscellaneous items that you just cant find at the local HS.

Steve here @ OSE of course to make this forum possible. And parts that are just about at rock bottom pricing to begin with.

Brian @ Rocketcity, multiple purchases and a point system to provide discounts on future purchases that's second to none. Blows away Hobbyking!

Jan @ Kintek Racing where you can find some really off the wall products. Being patient is the key! All these guys do this for the fun of it. It's not their day job!

Keith @ KBB for carrying that really expensive stuff that carries so much of an overhead that no one wants to touch them!

Here's some of my laundry list

It originally came with a dual rudder and was set up for a single but after some thought, I wanted to try a twin mono. I'll be removing the dual rudder setup and the single servo and stuffing tube. I will also be removing the wooden rails which are 5" to make room for the wider motor mount. I picked up a really well crafted single rudder, dual drive unit from MTC to handle the power. Model XL-SP. The drive angle's are adjustable and has a large surface mounting area. It's really beefy but since the hull is Poly, I wanted some reassurance of not blowing the transom off the rest of the hull. The transom will be reinforced as well from inside with a 6mm plate to back up all this aluminum.

        GEDC0009.jpgGEDC0016.jpgGEDC0017.jpgGEDC0015.jpgGEDC0033.jpg

For reinforcement purposes, I'll be reinstalling wider rails with some 4mm Carbon fiber rails and completing an inlay of some Hextow Hexcel IM7 carbon fiber. It carries a high end tensile strength of 800ksi in 6k and 820ksi in 12k. I'll be using the 6k version as the difference in weight/strength from 6k to 12k does not substantiate the 12k. Just more weight. On top of that will be a special inlay of 3k copper infused CF fabric, really just to match the current paint scheme but will add more rigidity and help with the extra weight of the powerplant. I should have some pics of the fabric before weeks end as they are currently enroute from the supplier.

To control the rudder and the weight in front of it, I'll be using a really strong Savox SV1270TG. Waterproof with 487 oz-in of torque @ 7.4 volts and titanium gear's, it should have plenty of power on turns.

            GEDC0002.jpg

To help stabilize it on the straights, I'm using a pair of Arrowshark aluminum Twin Ram Trim Tabs. They are a split design and can be adjusted for both outboard and inboard changes for the draft and water column exiting the underside of the hull.

Me too kfxguy! My first hull was a mono. A Spartan at that! Now my son own's it!

              misc 028.jpg

I only wish I would have held out for an Epoxy version of the SV43 just for added strength! Been thinking of doing a mold of this to do a CF version but I can't sell it so it's cost prohibitive!

For the batteries, which will be 7 or 8s in 2p, I'm still undecided. I have a set of MBP slider's but they may not be big enough. I may have to go with some 350mm trays from OSE or Kintek for the length of 2 7 or 8s cells on each side. Or go with a full size 4mm carbon plate over the center to accommodate the 4 battery pack's.

But the outrunners from the past Daytona's kept bringing me back

I knew it was going to be a heavy hull so I decided to go twin. The MHZ scorpions sound even better than the T600's and the FC's when they're wound up!

                    More to come.....

Finally got around to gutting the innards from the original setup. Removed the wood rails to accommodate the wider stance motor mount.

                      GEDC0041.jpg

There was a few spots on the bottom that were damaged during the removal of the rails and the stuffing tube.

                      GEDC0042.jpg

The bow had no damages and is untouched so the inlay should be really easy and come out nice.

After speaking to a few companies about their products, I opted to go with Marine Tex for the repairs.

                        GEDC0047.jpg

The problem I was concerned with was the fact that this hull is polyester resin and fiberglass. Epoxy doesn't bond to poly as well as epoxy/epoxy. And vise versa, poly to epoxy. So I needed a binder. Marine tex is a binder for poly and epoxy so the Carbon/Epoxy inlay should have about the best binding characteristics as can be had. After sanding for a few hours to remove the loose strands of fiberglass and even out the bottom, the first layer was put down. Its really smooth and applies easily with a plastic spreader for bondo.

                        GEDC0044.jpg

It takes about 2-3 hours to setup and about 18-24 hours to cure. Temps are recommended to be in the mid 70's for application so today was a perfect day. Upper 80's during the day to sand and mid 70's during application. I would rather be boating but I have put this project off long enough.

                        GEDC0045.jpg

I'll be putting down one more layer about 1/8 inch thick to smoothen out the bottom even more. This stuff if very lightweight and should add very little to the hull.

Here's a product I thought was pretty cool for the inlay. Its copper infused Carbon and should go well with the color of the hull. It's 2x2 twill weave with tensile strength of 5.9 oz/ 200gsm. The picture's don't do it much justice but it should look much better once it's inside the hull. This will be the finishing layer as I'm going to do a 2 layer setup. There will be quite a bit of weight to her in electronics so I want to play it safe.

So are you going to have to watch the conductive characteristics of that stuff John. I have had the ole carbon hull get zapped before.

It sure looks Purdy and will match the outer shell well.
