      slimshady,

If you want to send me the shaft (I'm in the UK), I will make you a copy of it adapted to take 3/16th" props. PM me for my contact details.

Out of interest, what brass props are you using?

      Regards,
      Paul

I seem to have come to a point where I can get no more speed from Mr Krabs Jan. In fact it seems to be going slower. At the moment I am spending time repairing my Xzess 2 after the fire. I am going to throw the 1515 1.5y out of that hull and put a 1515 1y motor in. I will change from 6s to 4s and put a Hydra 240 in it. What I want to do is get away from having 4s, 5s and 6s batteries and just run 4s in all my boats. I am trying to cut costs but still end up with the same speeds if not a bit more.

Jan I am all ears if you can help.

I seem to be stuck at 70mph. I have moved the strut between 30mm down to 17mm and it still runs wet on the sponsons. I have moved as much weight back as possible (without re-positioning the motor). I had heard so much about how fast and powerful these 1521 1D motors are and it is just not showing me that in the boat. I am not blaming the motor.
I think it was Brian Buass that told me it would be a lot faster with SAW sponsons or even a narrow ride pad under the existing ones. I have read somewhere where Joerg said he had seen these boats do 100mph in Germany but not being able to read German I can get no help on the German forums.
There are guys going faster with mono's.
To tell you the truth I am disappointed and starting to lose interest in this boat and I am spending more time with on my Dumas Hawk than Mr. Krabs.

That's a bummer Paddy ... I am no help though as I am still in the mid 40's on my boats and the XS2 has taken a back seat for now because of other commitments.

The financial crisis has trimmed about 20 hours a week from my pay packet Chuck so I just can not keep throwing money at this project. There is a method in my madness with the Dumas Hawk though. The Hawk is almost the same size but has quite narrow sponsons and ride pads. On 4s and the 1521 1.5D motor it is almost as fast as the Krabs was with the same setup. I am hoping with some more messing with props I will see it faster than Krabs. If it is, then I will build a set of SAW sponsons for Mr Krabs. I hope you can follow what I am saying here. I am using the Hawk to see if the narrow ride pads idea will help. I do not want to throw time and money at a bad idea. I know they are two different boats but it should give me some idea if I use the same setups in both boats.

Sounds like a plan Paddy that has a lot of merit.

just an observation, that rudder looks mighty large, and probably creates a bit of drag, got any pics of the underside of the rigger ?

A good observation. It is large and needs about 2 inches trimming from it. I have a small turn fin because of the amount of ducks I often have to avoid. These ducks have no fear. I could pick up 5mph or a little more going on previous experience by cutting that rudder.
Thanks for your comment and I will post here if it makes some improvement.
I will post some pics of the underside next weekend. I am putting a new motor and esc in my Xzess 2 at the moment and a bit busy to do the pics.

are you running a straight or curved turn fin. When I say curved I mean the bottom curves in towards the middle of the boat ?

This is a pretty much universal article on hydro setup. I have used this method with success in the past, I will admit I am yet to own a 70mph boat though.

The turn fin is very short so I just have a flat one. In early testing I used a full size curved one and the boat was magic in the corners.

My boats are neither SAW or circuit so I call them SAWcuit boats. A compromise between the two.

                          Thanks for the link

Paddy we both run Saw/oval setups for the same reason, the ducks just do not get out of the way. Any bird lovers here who can tell me if the feathered little sh1ts are deaf ??
Do not despair Paddy and for farks sake do not do what I did to one boat and that was to use it as a wheel chock for the Hilux.
Put it on the shelf and wait. Someone will design and develop a set of SAW sponsons for one of these soon.
Mine will hit the pond as soon as the weather here is perfect, that may be a few days away.
Andy has always said that the sponsons are too wide and I think he may have a point.
If they are then I will just make some new ones that will be able to go through the bandsaw and be narrowed bit by bit until the sweet spot is found.
I have a lot of wood and a lot of time and this is going to be a lot of fun to come up with a good sponson shape to make it boogie.

Chin up my friend, it is all about toy boats after all !!
                            See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

                              Simon!!! TOY BOATS!!!
The boats that Andy and I have a real boats. Small admittedly, but real never the less.

I hear ya Simon. I have a lot of family sh*t going on at the moment. A 17 year old son who thinks it is time to knock me of my throne. "Et tu, Brute?". He is just looking for the place to stick the knife. Believe me the last thing you need when you are 60 is a feral 17 year old son.
I will get back to Mr Krabs when all this blows over.
