Here's my boat. See the motor has a carbon fibre cooling jacket on it. So I think this will limit clamp motor mounts. Just to let you know, Slim, my wife had to upload these pictures for me because I'm just a steel fabricator. lol

Now how could two old guys like us get into trouble Rick?
I think I get into more trouble now than when I was a teenager. At least I can look back and know I have lived.
How is your Krabs coming along Rick? What color is he?

Your wife snuck these on while I was not looking. Nice looking boat Rick. It reminds me of mine before I got the big hammer and chainsaw to it.
I see you got her the 42 inch Plasma TV when you got your boat. Pictures tell many stories dont they? I think the TV was a good decision as your wife will not see the money going as you buy boat after boat after boat after boat.

Thanks for the pictures Mrs. Old Guy

Need some ideas and links if you have them for motor mount, strut and turn fin etv. etc. A motor mount that bolts to the side of the hull would be stronger I think. I was going to run 4 lipos in it would this be competitive with this set up in a 4 cell class?
welcome back to the FE R/C Old Guy....
The guys in the US are using that exact motor on their 4s setup, there are always exceptions to the rules but I think that is a good choice.
As far as hardware goes, there is a big array of choices out there, find something you like... just keep in mind that it needs to be a "wedge" type rudder, long enough to go about .5" or .75" below the prop, there is no use for more then that on a hydro. I particularly like the Speedmaster stuff, they are well made, priced right and look good while being functional, they sell most you'll need. Finding a turn fin that is perfect outta the box does not exist. There will always be sharpening, bending, trimming, drilling or some sorta combination of it, so, since you are a metallurgist, you should find a good fin between your buddies or pictures of some sort and make one yourself... that is an idea at least.
The motor mount will be a bit tricky, some guys cut the shape they need outta 1/4" ply and reinforce it with CF or FG, others transform some existing one.. .you name it, where there is a will there is a way. Just be sure to support the rear end of the motor on something so your don't rip the mount off it's base, serious speeds cause hard stops (if you know what I mean).
I think you'll have a good boat once you get her dialed, you have the advantage of owning a hull that is really well planned since in N. America there aren't many of those around yet. Try finding a German site that has races with the Krab and look at the pics to check the setups out... as well as this thread of course. They have some good do's and dont's here.

Hi all, Old Guy PM’ed me, sorry for not getting back to you, I have to admit I am having a very $h!tty week and did not want to look like I have given up, work is very and I mean very draining on me at the moment. All I want to do is get Mr Krabs back on the water this weekend but suppliers are letting me down. Sorry all members for being a bit off but the customers are in inspecting my £1M machine that I have designed and now getting it running with a few problems. My brain is a mush and my Mr Krabs is broken so work and hobby is now down the pan, wife and kids don’t help either.

One of the suppliers is going to let me know when the CF tube is in but hasn’t and the other sent a metal prop on Saturday but it still has not turned up yet so I might not be running this weekend, and therefore cannot provide video. In addition I have ordered a dogdrive converter and a 3 blade prop but I don’t hold up any hope of receiving before the weekend.

Sorry all for being a bit depressed, as for the boat build I have not had a chance to produce another smaller turn fin because I am too busy at work and no time to play.

Please accept my apology, then please feel free to take the P!$$ out of the Limies for apologising.

                      Best regards as always

No need to apologize Slim. I am sure we are all glad you are back. Us guys with Krabs have to stick together. I hope you read all I said and know I was just joking. If I upset you I am sorry but you will get used to me.
After talking to Andy I went and purchased some Pool Noodles or as some call them Pool Spaghetti to stop my Krabs sinking. I will post some pics when it is complete. I think this is too much boat to loose to the pool monster and to tell you the truth mine has had just the sponsons poking out of the water on one occasion.

Pool Noodles, are you off your noodle, I know they float but unless you cut them into bits and stuff them into the hull, how will they help keep Mr Krabs afloat? – what’s wrong with Styrofoam – it has less density.

It takes a lot to upset and offend me, usually I am just like you if not worst, so apologies on my behalf, carbon shafts have turned up at the shop, they even rang me to let me know that I can pick them up whenever. As for the prop ordered a couple of weeks ago with Astec, It still has not turned up and I ordered a bigger prop that’s a dog drive and a convertor, to convert my M4 out feed to dog drive.

Hope the super noodles work out for you, remember to add the flavour mix halfway through.

                            Slim,
Styrofoam is good as long as it is the marine type. The other type takes on water and so is not a great flotation medium. I only ever seem to find the wrong type of Styrofoam. I tested some cut pool noodle in a bowl and after 1 hour I dried it with a tea towel and it weighed the same as it did before I started so obviously it had taken on no water. Anyway I will let you know if my boat sinks. You will hear my sobbing from here I guess. I have a loose bush in my strut and if that spins out it lets the hull fill with water quickly. I talked with my mentor (Andym) last night and he said to Zap it in so I will try that.

Get your CF tubes and fix your Krabs up and you will feel a whole lot better. I was like a bear with a sore head when my Krabs had broken arms.

Paddy, if the hole is too big place some cut fibers of fiber glass and epoxy, otherwise it won't last long and you'll take water in again

Thanks for the heads up Jan. This is one boat I do not want to loose. It could easily snap a shaft when that comes out too as it lets the prop wobble about quite a bit. I hate loosing good props. I nearly cried when I lost the one last week as it was my best prop and Andy had put almost 3 hours work into it.
