    Derek's Banjee

Ok so this is my first build, I will need lots of input from anyone who can give it. I haven't seen anyone with one of these on the forum so its unique to me. The Banjee is a bait boat with a jet drive from South Africa. It's 39" Long by 14" wide and about 16" tall. It weighs in at 6.5 lbs. with jet drive. The drive is already installed the way I bought it. The boat is self righting so I really like that feature after rolling my Mystic and my Impulse and having to go retrieve multiple times this will be a welcomed bonus. The hatch bolts down with some wing nuts, and has a massive seal. It comes with a carrying handle that looks to be made of a material like a seat belt very tough. There are a set of LED lights on the top of the cabin for some added late night driving. The guy who makes these is looking for a distributer here in the US to get these hulls out, so if you are interested i can give you his contact info to help get that going. The postal service broke the steering nozzle so i have to wait for a replacement, maybe some superglue will give me a temporary crutch for now. Shipping from South Africa can be a pain because the postal service there is always on strike.

    So far I have a:

    - MGM 28026-3 lite
    - Sirius 1717 1580kv 4 pole motor
    - 2 Revolectrix 4s 5500mah 70c lipos

    I need:
    - Motor mount
    - servo mount if it can't be mounted with motor
    - lipo trays
    - plate or mounting box for rx and esc
    - Help in wiring up the led lights, may be as simple as a small battery pack?
    - antennae mount
    - water outlets for cooling

I'm considering a carbon inlay to reinforce the hull. Just don't know if I will reach speeds to require it?

The jet drive is a 30mm unit. It is 2 1/4"wide by 5"long without nozzle.

    - I need help determining how to make a template for the motor mount. I've seen people make them from cardboard or some other material but just not sure where to start.

    - In regards to the motor I may have to go with a lower kv? This is another area i have no clue about with a jet drive.

The manufacture of the jet drive will have the motor spec's required.

          Hi Derek,
Mate , I have a Banjee unit too, never installed it into a boat as I basically got mine broken in the mail, interested to see how yours goes though.

Since designed my own units, checkout Mickiebees under the unique products from OSE members threads.

You need a low KV motor for jet units, higher Volts.. I use a 4074 1800kv motor on 4s lipo,, this keeps the amp draw down and still provides plenty of power.
if you go up the KV on the motor then im afraid you will run into problems , jet units are Torque hungry big time.
          Hope that helps
          regards Mick

The motor I have is 1580kv so that should be ok, if you run 1800kv right?
            Thanks for your reply

Yep sure should, should be able to have a 120 amp esc too.

Ok so I got my motor mount.

The question I have now is the motor doesn't line up with the coupler. It's lower and needs to be raised up about 1/4" or so. What is the best way to do this? I thought about putting down 2 pieces of balsa? If thats's a bad idea please let me know. I'm gladly taking any suggestions. What's the best way to glue it to the hull?

I just remade the two side pieces of the motor mount so it came up to the right height, or you can redrill some holes in the existing ones , if there is enough meat there,

Got everything in this boat now. Had a maiden and had great thrust then all pressure dropped. Took nozzle apart and found stator was just spinning free so i glued back in all is good. Here are some more pics from the inside. Not the most beautiful inside in the world but I have limited tools and no skill.

This is just a shot down into the hull

Got a short video. Had problems with set screw on universal joint breaking loose from shaft. Drilled a spot in the shaft tonight to hopefully eliminate the screw coming loose. Try to get a much better video next time.

Much better runs with the boat now. Still want more speed. Do i need to drop to a lower kv motor to get this thing moving? Any suggestions welcome.

Added a lighting kit from RCLights.com Easy to install and I like the way they look. This is running on a 9volt battery.
