A fellow club member, has contracted the Wet Track Racing boat shed to build up one of Mikes' kits for the Executone hull. the boat will leave the shed as a bare hull only. All fitout & painting is not included in the contract
The final livery is still to be decided, but our club rules allow for custom paintwork, if you don't want to follow an original boat livery.
As you can see in the link, the kit is the base for 13 different boats. Possibly more.
So the kit & sticks & ply arrived last week & I got stuck into it. After a couple of hours the basic hull was all stuck together. A couple of hours work the next day & it was ready for sanding all the stringers & chines to the correct shape & angles so the skins could be added.
The tub floor was first, to add some rigidity to the frame & then all the sponson skins were added. I made some paper templates first & then marked them out on the sheets of ply.
The insides were given a coat of epoxy flowcoat resin while I was watching the Bathurst 1000 on Sunday.
A layer of glass was added to the floor of the tub & the insides of the sponsons.
Then a piece of 6mm Aluminium was fashioned into a backing plate for the turn fin bracket & epoxied/glassed into the heel of the sponson.
Coolite foam was added to the main hull areas, but I used the good old Eco Foam in the sponsons.
A couple of wooden blocks have been epoxied into the hulls top deck to accept the female bullets for the required Safety Loop here in Australia.
The foam has just now been sanded to shape. ready for the top decks to be epoxied on. But I like to leave the expanding foam for a couple of days to fully cure & grow before the sponson decks go on.
But I can add the top deck to the main tub where the coolite foam is. So that will be the next task.
I've enjoyed this build as much as the others so I've just ordered the Winston Eagle (lobster) kit for myself, for a little experiment.
Anyhow, here's the obligatory vision of this build so far.
