the sponson profile is not parallel to the hull (looking from the top it gets narrow towards the end) but the turnfin must be parallel to the hull, the point of it being screwed on this way is to adjust it so the hull and the turnfin are aligned.

Wapniak I would keep the turnfin accordingly to Kep's instructions and your boat will be much more fast.

I've read where some people fashion fins & rudder blades from carving knives. They're certainly hard, & come in varying thicknesses.
