I was browsing the net last month when I stumbled upon the Swifter hydroplane from R2 Hobbies. Why, I thought, has no one noticed this little 26” semi scale? After some research, it turns out that several guys on RCGroups had noticed. Paul (785boats) has the Poseidon version, and Flying Barry and the Rusty Old Fart built one as well. However; no one had decorated it so that it resembled one of the turbine boats from the 80’s and 90’s.
When I received the hull from R2 Hobbies I was pleasantly surprised. The glass work is very good and finish on the boat was great with no visible seam lines.
I can paint, but I don’t really have the facilities to do a proper job of it. So I decided to use this opportunity to learn a little bit about wrap vinyl. If you have ever worked with calendar vinyl ( the standard type of vinyl) you know that it doesn’t conform well to complex curves. Wrap vinyl on the other hand, does a great job. I choose the 7-Eleven theme because it is one of the few boats that has no interior deck design, so you can tape it without worrying about the graphics pulling up.
With the decoration complete, I’ll move on to the easy part, the hardware install. I’ll keep it simple and make it a P-Ltd boat with an Aquacraft 2080kv motor and speedo.
