Aeromarine Titan 40 build

New guy here starting a new build. I have built several scale boats before, but this will be my first FE build. Just waiting for the items to arrive tomorrow. Here is the list so far:

Aeromarine hull
Speedmaster 3/16" stinger
Speedmaster 1" x 1.5" tabs (4)
OSE 80050 rudder
OSE 80600 motor mount

My question is with the electronics. I plan on using a Leopard 4092 1390kv on 6s. I am looking for fast sport use 45-50 mph. Just unsure of the ESC... Leopard 180, Swordfish Pro 200, OR Sworfish Pro+ 220?

That is a difficult question. The Turnigy 180 has been pretty good, the others have had some reported issues. Be careful with prop selection, that will determine reliability. My personal Titan 40 is a 4S boat, but I have run a Titan on 24 NiMH cells and it ran well with an m445. On 4S it pulls around 180 amps so on 6S it should pull less. You should be able to run an m445 or x447 as long as the boat is trimmed right. Possibly more aggressive depending on your goals for the Titan. But be sure to check the temps often until you know the setup is safe.

Well as this is just for play I would rather go conservative with the prop as run time and being gentle on the components is more important to me than all out speed.

Back to the electronics, the 4092 is a good choice then? The Swordfish ESC less desirable than the Turnigy?

Either a 4082 or 4092 size is good, but for sport use I would go with a little lower Kv closer to 1200. That can still meet your speed goal easily but extend run time a bit while giving a wider choice of props.

I am still uncertain about the ESC. Several club members have been running T180s for a couple years with good success, while none have enjoyed their Swordfish. But many online posts praise the SF, so I just do not know. I use Castles almost exclusively myself, several have been racing for four years and are still going strong. Most are modified aircraft controllers, not the discontinued marine versions.

I am sure you will enjoy the Titan, I have had two and loved them.

Okay so a 4082 1250KV or 4092 1050KW or 1300KV.

Any suggestion on how high up the transom for the stuffing tube/ stinger hole. I have seen a few Titan threads about it being drilled to low.

Mine is set with the bottom of the stinger 3/16" above the vee bottom. It might be better 1/4" above but this works for me. The higher the stinger the more stable the boat - but it cuts speed a little bit.

I have a 4092 1300kv with an M445 in my Titan 40 and runs great so I can recommend this setup. I have a flooded stuffing tube in mine but currently have it set about 1/4" up and runs nice and stable
