    Well now that I see someone build a boat I have to say that I assemble my boats!

    What a talent you have there! I like my Toy sport Twin Jolly and enjoyed assembling it ... that must give you quite a bit of satisfaction!
    We did it with a Bang!

      When I say Build !

      Thanks for the compliment.
      here are some photos from yesterday and today, including the new hull still in the mold and my Aeromarine 50" Apache.
      I am using mold clay for some of the fairing and the seats on the hatch. These are kind of in reverse order

        The Apache

        Here is my 20 year old Aeromarine 50" Apache, and my Viking in the foreground.
        I am just dieing to get some hardware on that baby and get it in the water.
        That is still two weeks away, I need to make the mold for the deck and hatch, and then make the parts.

          Deck and Hatch

          I expected to be able to get the molds off the deck and hatch plugs today.
          No luck. It takes several days for the fiberglass resin to cure and shrink so it breaks the bond and comes off. Perhaps tomorrow.
          I threw a 700BB,9.6 Graupner in hull #1 and ran it today. It looks good, and I lucked out running it with no deck, I didn't sink it.
          I got my Feigal 540 9XL today and my Mystery 200 Amp controller, no bec in that ESC, it took me a while to figure that out. The ESC came with no instructions at all. It plays a nice little tune or two, I have no Idea what they mean.
          Later;

            You MEAN you ran the boat with exsposed electronics and no cover for the hull.

              Wide Open

              Yep;
              I put my data logger V3 in and tried out 4 different props and got rpm ,amp data on them.
              NO Deck
              No cover
              No flotation,
              Wide Open for a short distance. She just seems to glide with no effort at all once she is on plane.
              I am working on the deck.

                How much did you invest in the V3. They are NOT waterproof and getting them wet voids warrenty. You are begging for electronics running an open hull... At least use some sort of radio box many have used tupperware containers just cut a small hole in the side big enough for the wires to go thru and tape over the hole..... I just isnt worth it in my opinion...
                Twin cat 9xl,... 29 titan 8xl,....37 in mono kb48 8xl.... 42 in twin elc cat project... 42 in gasser cat 260 modded zenoh''' planes and trucks....

                  On the safe side

                  OK !
                  I had my receiver and speed control in a tupperware like container and I taped a piece of vinyl over the hull to keep spray out.
                  I an running a Graupner 700BB 9.6, my new Feigao XL9 is on the bench waiting for the deck and hatch. No fool I.

                    V3

                    I got my data logger for my birthday last year.
                    I discovered that without an light tight deck and hatch that the opto,speed sensor wouldn't work, it would be fine in the shop and then not work out in daylight.
                    I got the Hall effect sensor installed yesterday and that was the reason for the second set of tests on the lake.
                    It is interesting to see the graph as the RPMs go down and the Amps go up as the prop size goes up. The third leg of that stool, I don't have (GPS) I don't have the speed info.
                    I think I will DP270 my data logger, makes sense, I only use it on boats.

                        The Deck is done !

                        The deck came out of the mold early and is done. I trimmed it and cut out the hatch.Then I took photos for you.
                        This is the mold for the deck.
                        The inside of the mold and the finished Deck.
                        I taped the deck on the boat for photos.
                        My motor mount, the set collar on the flex shaft has a magnet epoxied in to it for the Hall effects RPM sensor for my Eagle Tree V3 data logger.
                        I am going to see what this hull will do with a Graupner 700 BB 9.6v motor before install in the Feigao 9XL. This should be interesting.

                          It Goes

                          Interesting weekend;
                          Sat; I went to the boat launch where the local boat guys run their boats.gas boats. With the Graupner 700BB 9.6, I ran it on 12 cells. She was up on plane going OK not fast, maybe 5 min.
                          I headed for shore and she died about 6' from shore. The wind helped out, the lake drops right off. I put it onthe cradle, opened the hatch and my nostrils were assailed by the smell of a melted motor.
                          I had wound 5/32 Aluminum tubing all around the length of the motor and made brush cooling tubes. There was water coming out of the exit pipe the whole run. I pulled the tubing off the rudder and blew into it and put my hand by the exit pipe, the air was hot enough to burn my hand had I left it there too long.
                          So much for extensive testing with the 700 before going BL!
                          I did get one set of #, the day before, a short run with each of 4 props. Octura X440, X640, X445, X645.
                          Sunday I got the Feigao 9XL in the boat, attached the Eagle V3 logger and charged 2packs of 3600nimh. with the Octura X440 on we headed for the lake.
                          It was rough out there, a nice breeze and lots of boat traffic. I made a couple of circuits and brought it in, motor not even warm, $50 Chinese 200A speed control/with my custom brass water tank cooling, cool as a cucumber.
                          My son made a couple of longer loops out into the lake. Man it looks fast, but it is a big boat. Brought it in everything just barely warm to the touch.
                          I took her out again and made a couple of loops similar to my son's and brought her in, the batteries had started to fade. Motor just warm , the ESC barely warm, The Batteries !! SMOKING !!!
                          Average Amps 24 ,MAX amps 52, Run time total of 7 min on the throttle.
                          She runs nice, high and dry, corners OK with my homemade hardware.

                            More Pictures

                            Here is the hardware I made. It seems to work good. The rudder I originaly made bent so I bought one, I borrowed a turn fin from another boat, too.
                            The shots on the water she is running 12cells, Feigao 9XL with an Octura X640, and a gear ratio of 1.5:1, Average RPM at the prop 13,500 rpm motor 20,250 rpm, average 12 Volts, average Amp draw 26.2 Amps, Max amp draw 28.25Amps. She ran 6 minutes on a pair of 3600nimh in series.
                            Everything was comfortable warm, not hot.

                                Boating on lake Zoar !

                                Hi guys;
                                I went boating on Lake Zoar, CT. this afternoon, I live by the lake and my son has a boat, Yamaha, 24' twin 140 HP Jet drives. Here is the good part
                                I took the Viking along, I was running the Feigao 9XL on 4s-4800mAh Elites and pushing an Octura X440 direct drive.
                                WOW !! what a blast ! The lake was not smooth, lots of boat traffic so we had to pick out a slot and go for it.
                                It looked like the opening of the old Miami Vice TV show. When she flew, and she did fly, she came off the wave top horizontal and came down on course, there were some 6' long leaps in there.
                                I can't believe that we didn't have someone with a video camera !
                                Just the two of us, my son driving his boat , and me driving mine.
                                It was better than the guy on YouTube with his Blackjack brushless and a Boston Whaler chasing it
                                When the performance slowed down I retrieved the boat, the motor and speed control were just warm, the Deans ultra connectors were HoT.
                                Any one out there near Sandy Hook CT who can run a video camera?
