    30" Max cat scratch build

I really scored big time, I found an almost new dremel scroll saw on craigslist for $50 and a local place here in Tucson that has nice marine grade birch plywood for $17 dollars for an 1/8"x 5' x 5' sheet and they cut in half for me so it fit in my car!!!

So here we go again and I'm gonna do a couple 30 inch p-limited cats, I got a 2030 ul1 motor and ESC already waiting...
That scroll saw makes quick work of it I'm gonna stack enough wood under the templates for 2 full skeletons and I'm gonna do the skin out of pre-fab fiberglass sheets. I found a picture of a completed one and the skeleton from another build that inspired me...

Looks like a fun project. Curious about the pre made glass sheets.

The pre-fab is actually me buying 2 bags of walmart 5.oz cloth and making it myself. I'll show it when I get there, its easy lay a sheet of wax paper on a flat surface and lay the glass cloth on the wax paper and saturate with epoxy resin and lay another wax paper on top and compress with weight. Let it cure and there it is...

Sounds like a great idea, looking forward to see how you build with it.

I just finished up cutting the main skeleton out and still have to cutout the steps and trim for the hatch opening...

I got a lil spare time this afternoon so I cut a piece of 1/8" light ply for the tunnel and tacked everything together... I'm real happy with the way it all fit, its gonna be easy keeping this hull straight

              A little more progress

I got the foam flotation done and almost ready to skin... Need to install the steps on the bottom and epoxy the inside wood for water proof, I decided to use 1/16 plywood for the bottom skin and IDK what I'm gonna do for the rest but she weighs in at 433 grams just under a pound. I'm trying to stay as light as possible and not compromise strength!

                Update

Here is the latest on my lil cat project... I'm back to the original plan, I've got 3 layers of cloth and I'm gonna wet this out with epoxy resin and use this for the skin! The 1/16"x12"x24" plywood I bought is heavier than my boat so that's not gonna work... Hopefully this glass will keep me close to a target of 1 1/2 pounds and that will make this a very competitive hull!!!

Here is a link to the plans, scroll down the page about 3/4's of the way down and you will find a post from cyberhoops and a link to the build that inspired me to start this one... Thank you for the compliments. I tried to post a copy here but for some reason I can't get it to post a pdf file.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1507778 the file is called customcatsheet-30in its the last of three files in that post...

If for some reason you can't find it let me know and we will figure out a way to get you a copy!!!

The reason I can't post a copy of the plans for this boat is the PDF file is to big and exceeds the file size limit for this site...

After finishing one fiberglass panel I put it on my scale and its heavier than the 1/16 plywood so I went looking for plywood cheap enough for me to afford and I found the DUMAS Boat factory here in Tucson had 4'x4' sheets of birch 1/16" plywood for $54.00 out the door and I took pictures of the display area in the office its so cool walking down memory lane...
