50" unknown hydro build from scratch

hey all name is mike. this is my first boat build and first time using an rc forum. so here's the run down. ive done many fiberglass projects mainly giant rc planes and some 1/4 scale floats. but I had some help from a partner I work with, we both have never really worked with boats. turns out he had a couple picklefork molds. (we are looking to sell them.) so I wanted to make me a couple boats from scratch. so far all I got done is the fiber glass parts. and now I am at a stand still. I have no idea what to use for the prop or motor. I do want use a b/l system with lipos. so if you have any ideas or tips for the power system let me know I would appreciate it.

here are some of the measurement and weight if it helps. if any other info is need let me know. also I need an idea on the size of the upright and vertical wing.

    meas. L50"x fronthalf w26" x h4"
    width of rear 17"
    total weight of parts, 6.5bls

also if I can get it past 45 I would be happy. as for lipos an runtime I can figure that out after I get a system in it. and if theres anything I can get from towerhobbies or horizonhobbys let me know.

thanks to the feedback I got that was helpful. now have an idea of what kind of motor system to get maybe A Neu 2230 or Leopard 56110 950kv or something similar and a swordfish 300. how do I go about finding the drive system or props an shafts sizes and hardware.

Hi Mike this hull looks the Sport 50 from Aeromarine a big boat that will need a big fe set up....this brought to me memories of one I built for a friend using a Quickdraw 35cc.Personally I don't think you have to use a rear wing. For motor A Neu 2230 1Y plus a SF 300 will be a good combo for 10/12S batteries .As yoú're a newbie with Fe boats I would pay attention for the advises from the experts.Gill

It will be expensive to put this boat together as an FE... maybe not such a good idea for a first build. I have a shovelnose that size and have well over $2500 in it. But if you want to go ahead with this I will help when I can.

Nice looking hydro. You seem more than capable in the building department so with careful research you should no problem. You may want to include your goals with the boat, speed, runtime and look at other build here so you get an idea of what you want. It's really impossible to guess what you need as there are just to many combinations out there. Narrow things down a bit with setups that you like and with more information people can help you out. It's a very broad question at the moment!

yeah I know its gona be expensive im glad I was able to save some money by put putting my own time into building the hull. I would appreciate any help if you don't mind, I also for got to mention I have a good relationship with a hobby store out in Burbank. but we only specialize in rc planes, helis, and cars. but if you know of something I can get from horizon or towers that would be great to. or am I gona have to outsource

as for goals if I can get it faster than 45 ill be happy. like I said I want to go brushless. as for run time ill not to worried about that yet. when I find the motor system I can be flexible with the lipos as I ajust the weight and balance.

A fairly inexpensive motor and ESC combo would be a Leopard 56110 950kv and a Swordfish 300 Pro Plus run it on 12s and depending on the weight of that hull you should see around 60mph out of it. The biggest single expense is going to be batteries.

On something that big, I'd go with 1/4" flex

I am using a Neu 2230 1Y, SF Pro+ 300, 1/4 flex, 6717/3 prop, and 10S2P Dinogy's. The motor mount was made by a member here at OSE. I am at 60 mph now so on 12S ... who knows?

Well after some good inputs I would say that the Leo 56110 plus the Sf 300 would be you starting point.About batteries the Nanotech 65C are reasonably good and won't break the bank. yes 1/4 flexshaft please!Props may vary but the 6717/3 or 6717/2 will work. Most of theses parts can be purchased here at OSE,for props I would go with Mark Sholund(Props4you) a great guy to deal with.Hope this encourage you to go ahead.Cheers Gill
