    Hi Darin,
Your build seems well thought out, and nice and neat.
Something I have changed in the instructions was to NOT use a tap in the nozzle and cage, and let the screws tap themselves. I think rather than let people find the right drill, I will drill all holes in the units so as so people do not have to be so exact in these areas. May even sell these as already assembled for and extra $15, so people do not need to worry about them.
I have also since changed the instructions so you swap the cage around so the trim input is on the L/H side, so you have enough room for the servos and transom seals.
I read earlier on in this thread that some people experienced hopping, This is due to a number of factors, Too small a hull and the C of G is not set around 35%- this was found on hulls shorter than 650mm long, and there is insufficient length in the delta or ride pad.
The main thing people have is trying to compare this unit with a KMB or Graupner, they are not a MIXED flow Unit, where it differs as these unit have about twice as much suction, as such will suck the back of the hull down harder, if the delta isn't long enough and have a constant transition all the way, you will experience what happens to a spoon if you pass water over it ( porposing) .
By the looks of it you have your Cof G set about right , you will have no problems pushing this unit to 4S , just make sure you keep the grease up to the shaft before you take it out for a run, the reason for keeping the hex part outside the boat was for maintenance .
I am now following this thread with interest, keep up the great work mate.
    Regards Mick

Thank you Mick. The CG as pictured is right at 35%.

          Mick,

Boat is ready for a receiver and it's in the water. I just haven't had time this week to get back on it... Shouldn't be long though.

Here is a rather crappy video representation of the boat on the water. I was trying to film with my smartphone with one hand while driving with the other... doesn't work so well, but I wanted something on video.

Water was very choppy and it was really windy, so hard to get a long smooth run.

However, yesterday I got it out at our race and did get some high-speed running. Works really well when you trim it correctly, right up until the boat hops for the first time, then it loses thrust, and drops, then hops again, and that cycle starts. Also spins out very easily. I'm thinking it's time to employ some jetski tech and fashion and intake grate and maybe some type of small turn-fins or ??? to help keep it hooked up better.

Overall... it's a KICK!! Pump is GREAT with a Pro Boat/Dynamite 1800KV power system on 4S!

I did a couple of rather hastily done modifications last night...

Wanted to help the pump maintain water-flow when the boat bounces, so I took a cue from back in my JetSki racing days and did a couple of makeshift "fences" to try to act as a grate. We'll see how this works and adjust more if needed. I may further mimic a JetSki grate and add the "scoop" to the back of the grate.

I also fabbed up a set of turn-fins. Kind of takes away from the "fun" of having nothing sticking out of the bottom of the hull, but it should help keep the boat hooked up in the turns. I need to do some other testing that requires that this boat NOT be spinning out every time I turn it.

We'll see how she runs now!

pretty interesting. I agree with the fins, takes away from the jet boat "feel" but you gotta do what ya gotta do. Get someone to take some better vid for you .

                    Looking good Darin,
Where have you got the C of G? I found the Bouncing is also largely due to insufficient ride pad length, I had to lengthen the pad on m little jetspints up to 450mm long and get the C of G at 35% to get it to run right.
Interesting to see how you go with the loader gates.
                    Cheers Mick

OK... Testing done and it's a winner...

First, I immediately removed the turn fins... simply would not TURN with them on...

The gates, however, helped GREATLY, and I may make them a tad larger. Kept the pump supplied with water in the turns and helps a bit, while still allowing it to be a jet boat.

It's not even coming close to taxing this power system. I think I'd like to try a higher KV setup, or maybe put it on 5S next time. It'll run for well over 10-minutes like it is now.

The pump unit, properly installed and kept lubricated, seems to be pretty durable. The boat survived three kids under 8-years old BASHING the heck out of it, and one big Black Lab, who didn't like the boat at all and insisted on trying to eat it, leaving three big canine tooth holes in the side of the hull. It filled with water and was still running strong.

Here is a quick clip. Very cool project in my opinion, and I think this pump system is the perfect platform for an all-around fun basher boat.

Here is another clip with a couple of "high-speed" passes... Still have to be a little gentle in the turns....

That's the type of video I wanted to see! It looks like it needs a little power but seeing the jet pump running without the awful hopping is great. I was having my doubts about them. Thanks for taking the time to post the build and work out the issues. I see one of these jet drives in my future now!

There is PLENTY of power there. The impeller just gives what it can five. I'm going to try it on 5S one of these days, just to see what another 6,600 RPM will do for it. It's about all you can do to try to get more speed at this point, with a fixed impeller. Perhaps Mick will add some options there. I could also try "prepping" an impeller to sharpen the leading edges...

Seems like you have the issues ironed out now, going quite well...
After i work out a few other projects out, i will be revisiting the 2 stage conversion idea. Basically it will be a bolt in concept, you will have to change out the impeller though, as the new ones will be different pitches .
There will be a whole set of parts available thru Steve at OSE soon, will be sending a care package his way in the next few days.
