    MHZ Mystic 185 by KBB

I haven't done a build thread on this forum in a LONG time, so I figured I would post one up to share with the people who stick exclusively to OSE and would otherwise not get to see it. Hopefully I can share something of interest or perhaps provide some inspiration to those building boats.

This build will be done with a MHZ 185 Mystic. It's a 73" (72.83", to be specific) carbon/Kevlar hull, and when it's RTR it will weigh over 40lbs.

Here's a look at the unadulterated hull:

Look forward to seeing what will go into powering this behemoth and making it work well on the water. The battery cost alone must be staggering!

Typically I would power a hull like this with Lehner 3040s or 3060s, but in this case I'm going to be using 3080s. 3080s are not necessary, more of a novelty in this case. ESCs will be MGM 40063-3, and power will be derived from 12s 80000mah per side (although I also have the option of 14s with this setup).

A layer of honeycomb carbon fiber was added to strengthen the hull and provide a look that's different than anything else out there.

Will this be your own personal boat, or are you building this for someone?

For grins and giggles, can you also give us an idea of the cost to build a boat like this? Nothing personal like your labour costs. Just parts and materials.

I am curious what kinds of speed you would expect to see from a boat that big and heavy..... Big power with lots of lipo's pushing a big boat........ 70-80? That would be sweet

                My personal boat.

It really depends on what you choose for parts, but typically a boat this size will cost you around $5k with conservative parts, and it goes up from there. I think the last one that I built was just over $7k, which did include my labor costs, but not paint.

It will definitely have the potential for that and more.

Nice one Keith, definitely a big setup for that boat. Will look good with those big cans in there though! Aiming for any speed or just for cruising?

I've always wondered what a 3080 can manage in the prop department, I'd love to see the data logging when she hits the water. The inlay looks really cool, something tells me the sled system is going to be unique as well.

--There are a few nerds out there that I think would love to see what these monsters do in the wattage department, not gunna say names or anything lol

I don't know if you can understnd german but here is a 240 mystic . Its bigger and much heavyer than you hull butt you van see the the power of this very heavy beast 32kg
                            Build with 3080 /8 lehners http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sk07W...e_gdata_player
But later transferd to TP 5850 /820 engines http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbZeY...e_gdata_player
currently he is running the TP 5850 /1000 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_U76J...e_gdata_player
These tp weight is half of the lehner and power about the same.

                            I use the same tp' s for a 1,70 meter sv43 .
These motors are a beter buy than the lehners , 1/3 price and very good.
I have owned 3060 lehners but not any more the 6pole tp's are more efficient current wise as they have more torque.
I know the build quality and barrings is A little better from the lehners, but really for the running time these motors make the tp are defenetly a better buy.

Good luck with your build .
                            Greats Ramon

I'm aiming to keep it reasonable and not get carried away, at least for a while. I think I can have fun running 80s while staying fairly "safe", but I am equipping her to do much more if I choose to. The 40063 were chosen to help keep temps nice and cool whether I'm running hard and fast, or running with gas guys (going slower for a longer period of time). I also like the headroom if I choose to get silly with it. The original motors chosen were 3060s, but I just finished a 185 with 3060s so I wanted to do something different. It was either going to be something smaller or something bigger, and since I am favoring cool running parts I went with bigger.
