    What is a "flooded tube"

    Ya, nubie question,

I have been reading many pages of builds. I see a flooded tube mentioned often.

Could someone please explain what it is compared to a regular stuffing tube "I have a Revolt".

And what are the pros, cons?

    thanks for your time,

I don't intend to write a tome, but simply a flood tube is a large diameter chamber surrounding the regular stuffing tube, usually on a mono. It provides a lot of adjustment of the strut up and down, critical to many boats. Without one, possible vertical adjustments are very minimal.

Here is a photo of the business end of the tube. Inside the boat the tube is sealed around the brass stuffing tube so there are no leaks.

      Thanks Fluid,

I assume a strut, not a stinger, must be used with a flood tube?

      thanks again,

Most stingers have a limited amount of vertical adjustment, so you could use one. But a strut would be "better".

Take a look through this thread: http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...-Target-100mph

It should give some better insight with pics.

            Wow, thanks Tyler,

That really clears up the flooded tube for me.

            Also excellent build thread.

            Thank you,

how about epoxying a large brass tube in the bottom of the transom sticking into the hull about 1 " or so. then run a flexible rubber hose or boot from that to stuffing box. same thing as tube, but much easier.
